Prepare to wait a little longer for Zach Parise and Ryan Suter’s decisions, Red Wings fans

Update #3 according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo and the Newark Star-Ledger’s Rich Chere, decisions could still come tonight: Well this sucks from a Red Wings fan’s perspective. Zach Parise has chosen to delay his decision regarding his NHL future, per TSN’s Mark H. Masters, outside Newport Sports offices’ in Toronto…

No decision from Parise
...
Parise refused to put a deadline on his search
...
Parise insists he’s not feeling pressure from teams to make a decision
...
There will be no repeat of the stake out tomorrow; Parise is scheduled to fly out of Toronto
...
Parise on taking his time: ‘It’s such a long-term, important decision, you have to make sure you look at everything’
...
Parise on what has surprised him about the process: ‘How hard [agents] work, how much information they give you’
...
Parise on Brodeur: ‘We’ve definitely been in contact’

And the Globe and Mail’s David Shoalts:

Zach Parise: I’m getting closer but haven’t made a decision. I haven’t set and deadlines.
...
Parise says he will return home tomorrow and discuss things with his family. Would not say which teams in contention but Devils still in mix
...
Now that I’ve had a minute, that should be Parise: I haven’t set any deadlines.

And things remain just as murky regarding Ryan Suter, per the Tennessean’s Josh Cooper...

No update on Suter per [his agent, Neil] Sheehy…

And the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo:

The plan is Parise will come back here to Minnesota tomorrow, discuss with fiancee and get back to his agents “later;” nothing imminent

As I said on Twitter, I understand that Parise and Suter have every right to take their time, but there are many free agent players, many teams and millions and millions of fans whose lives will be changed dramatically by these two young men’s decisions, and given that the pair knew they would have hard decisions to make going in, well…

It’s time to put up or allow teams “on the outside” to move on to other contingency plans.

Update: But that being said, if you disagree, I completely respect where you’re coming from. I do not want this to be about who’s “right” or “wrong” in terms of whether we agree or disagree with what these players are doing. I’m not sure there is a “right” or “wrong” here to begin with.

MLive’s Ansar Khan confirms

Quick update on the Detroit Red Wings’ free-agent watch:

New Jersey forward Zach Parise told reporters today that he hasn’t made a decision. He is returning home to Minnesota to speak with his family and has no timetable for a decision.

Parise told media gathered outside his agents’ office in Mississauga, Ontario, that the Devils are still in the mix. But he would not reveal what other teams are still in it.

The Red Wings submitted their offer on Sunday and haven’t heard back.

Reports indicate Pittsburgh and Chicago are in the mix.

Also, Neil Sheehy, the agent for defenseman Ryan Suter, said his client has not decided yet either and did not provide a time frame for a decision.

And Helene St. James added this:

From DET GM Ken Holland “We have been told nothing” in regards to Zach Parise. #RedWings

Update #2: From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Russo:

Wade Arnott: We have thoroughly deliberated every option with Zach. He wishes to take some time to step back and review all (cond)
...
(cond) Arnott: with his fiance and his family. We could be drawing closer to a decision.”

Here’s the same from Darren Dreger:

Parise’s agent, Wade Arnott: “We have thoroughly deliberated every option with Zach….
...
.“He wishes to take some time to step back and review all with his fiance and his family. We could be drawing closer to a decision.”

Oh for *#$%@&’s sake. Ridiculous. How hard can it be to make up one’s mind about this? Suter and Parise HAD to have given this A LOT of thought in the weeks leading up to this and now they’re suddenly unsure? Sheesh…

So, Suter actually said that?  If so he really likes to shun the limelight.  No, that doesn’t make sense either.

where’s gowings?  This is really some sh1t now, eh?  If Suter has made a decision why the Hell doesn’t he just come out and say it, or have his agent say it so he can hoe his tomato garden.

If Suter said that does that mean they are linked?  I wondered about them actually being as good of friends as some reports made them to be, and if they were regularly phoning or txting each other.

Other teams can’t do anything because other players won’t sign until the big dogs set the market-price for free agents. Whatever the top guys get, it sets the tone on down. Suter gets 8, Carle gets 5. Suter gets 9, Carle gets 5.5?

I don’t like that we haven’t heard anything since we submitted the offer if that is in fact true.  If we are out of it, fine, but it would great if Parise could let us know so we could lock down Semin or whoever else we need to go after.

I am seriously losing it…I was moody before, but now…. I honestly believe that both want to play in the same place (Bird land). This is too weird for both players not making a decision. I am restraining myself for not saying anything I will regret….oh boy I just want to say it….

This is a little ridiculous.  Too many things don’t make sense about how they attacked the process, given the hype leading up to it.  One thing is for sure, I’m sure NHL.com is getting plenty of hits.

Why would they indicate a decision no sooner than today if he still has to fly home tomorrow and talk about things with his family?  I don’t understand why they’re stringing along if not just to try to generate buzz during the hockey off-season.  No reason what-so-ever Suter couldn’t have made a decision unless Parise is in the drivers seat and they really do plan on landing together.

I’m over it.

@HockeytownOverhaul your conspiracy theory of them wanting to play together makes a lot of sense, except that, it’s a lot of money to tie up in 2 players

And if they due end up together (I still think Bird land) at the very least, don’t be in the Western conference. I don’t need another team (like the Wild) getting better while we are still trying to keep up.

I actually respect this, or at least understand this, if he’s actually weighing all the options - like playing with Crosby, friend from prep school, or playing with Datsyuk and what used to be the Wings possession style which we seem to want to chuck out the window, or playing home in Minnesota which is also closest to Suter’s Madison farm (Chicago might be closer to that farm depending where it is) - I think all of that is understandable, even though I’m sure he should have been thinking of all this since a few days after the SCF.

Oh, and two words,  pre nup.

Yes, my dad of rural Michigan would have said the same.

Of course, he also would say “useless as teats on a boar”

and “girl who dance with invisible man, not know what she up against”

and “man who court girl on mountainside, not on level”

and “pull my finger”.

I don’t know which blog to post random, meaningless comments, so maybe both.

I notice that cap geek  increased Damien Brunnerholmstromberg’s cap hit from $950,000 to $1.3M !

Still go for $16M of Suter and Parise, and then shed salary as needed.

I hear you EP but there are plenty of teams willing to do just that.  Including yours and ours.

It’s just the process I guess.  SYF was right, this feels close enough to The Decision to stink a lil bit.  From the initial, I’m going to my house don’t bother me.  No I wont meet my future employer face to face.  It’s like they know they’re shit doesn’t stink and everyone wants them.. not a very classy approach really.  Given the amount of teams interested, you don’t think all the offers were generally in a certain ballpark?> At least the ones from teams that were being serious.  And did you really need to meet with all 20+teams? Or phone conference with them?  You had no idea which teams you didn’t want to go to for sure?  Rick Nash managed to muster up a list of his chosing.  I don’t dig it at all at this point.

Wait for Suter, move on Parise, sign Semin call it a day.

Brunner’s hit is 1.3m or so due to bonuses.

Seems to be some writing on the wall that says Parise is negotiating terms with Pittsburg.  Might be baseless rumors, but if true, would mean that team has like $30m locked with 3 players.

Why is everyone intent on waiting? I’ve been asking around here in Pittsburgh, and can’t for the life of me imagine why Shero hasn’t at least kicked the tires on Bobby Ryan… It was rumored the Ducks were looking for young D-men, and the Pens have a boatload of prospects.

I don’t think Parise has Detroit in mind anymore.  Why else would Holland add a couple forwards? Unfortunately, I think he’s headed to Minny or Armpittsburgh.

neh sir, 2 goals in two months?  No other scorer is that streaky except Marleau.  Nash plays the PP and PK, big body, uses it, goes to hard areas.  Bet he’d be great in the playoffs, we just don’t know wink

I don’t want to part with Smith or Nyquil, but realistically, we have a lot of roster players with great character that would do well down there.  I’d reluctantly send Flip, very reluctantly but Nash being fed by Z or P.. come on…

Wow-The delay means these guys are getting together, one-on-one, no agents and will decide on ONE TEAM.  They will play on the SAME team.  They will announce simultaneously, if not jointly.  Signing bonus amount, team roster, best chance to win, daily living lifestyle location.  Wings get the bonus money, Pens get team roster, Pens get chance to win, Wild get daily living location.  The Awesome part is 2 TEAM USA Silver Medalists will kow-tow to the man that ripped gold from their necks-SID THE KID, baby. But hey, it’s not about the money right, they must love Sid.  And people will bitch about too-too or who-who or wtf.  Hockeytown, how about Hockeysmudge.

You say this like you know this for a fact but the fact is you have no idea.  This is not the NBA and there is no Miami.  Well there’s the Panthers, but nobody wants to go there.  Your jab at the Detroit is awful.  While Pittsburg may get Parise, it doesn’t guarantee a damn thing.  The Pens have everything going for them as any other club, but not an edge.  They got their assholes ripped apart in the 1st round this year, remember? That’s right, MAF sat on his stick and the Pens couldn’t beat the Universe.  Minny has hometown status, Pens and Detroit have contender status, Devils have the comfort, and Philly has insanity.  Its all even at this point.

Back to reality, IMO Suter is a must have at this stage of events.  8M would be excessive but probably worth it in the end if that’s what it takes.  Hopefully all the forwards on the roster means that a trade is in the works, and heres to hoping Nash isn’t involved the entire roster is torn apart.  Bobby Ryan would be a solid snatch, and maybe he could be had for a package (Fil, Quincey, Emmerton?) less demanding.  He’s got a better cap hit too.  Here’s to hoping shiz pans out.
