The Malik Report

Update #3 according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo and the Newark Star-Ledger’s Rich Chere, decisions could still come tonight: Well this sucks from a Red Wings fan’s perspective. Zach Parise has chosen to delay his decision regarding his NHL future, per TSN’s Mark H. Masters, outside Newport Sports offices’ in Toronto…
No decision from Parise
Parise refused to put a deadline on his search
Parise insists he’s not feeling pressure from teams to make a decision
There will be no repeat of the stake out tomorrow; Parise is scheduled to fly out of Toronto
Parise on taking his time: ‘It’s such a long-term, important decision, you have to make sure you look at everything’
Parise on what has surprised him about the process: ‘How hard [agents] work, how much information they give you’
Parise on Brodeur: ‘We’ve definitely been in contact’
And the Globe and Mail’s David Shoalts:
Zach Parise: I’m getting closer but haven’t made a decision. I haven’t set and deadlines.
Parise says he will return home tomorrow and discuss things with his family. Would not say which teams in contention but Devils still in mix
Now that I’ve had a minute, that should be Parise: I haven’t set any deadlines.
And things remain just as murky regarding Ryan Suter, per the Tennessean’s Josh Cooper...
No update on Suter per [his agent, Neil] Sheehy…
And the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo:
The plan is Parise will come back here to Minnesota tomorrow, discuss with fiancee and get back to his agents “later;” nothing imminent
As I said on Twitter, I understand that Parise and Suter have every right to take their time, but there are many free agent players, many teams and millions and millions of fans whose lives will be changed dramatically by these two young men’s decisions, and given that the pair knew they would have hard decisions to make going in, well…
It’s time to put up or allow teams “on the outside” to move on to other contingency plans.
Update: But that being said, if you disagree, I completely respect where you’re coming from. I do not want this to be about who’s “right” or “wrong” in terms of whether we agree or disagree with what these players are doing. I’m not sure there is a “right” or “wrong” here to begin with.
MLive’s Ansar Khan confirms
Quick update on the Detroit Red Wings’ free-agent watch:
New Jersey forward Zach Parise told reporters today that he hasn’t made a decision. He is returning home to Minnesota to speak with his family and has no timetable for a decision.
Parise told media gathered outside his agents’ office in Mississauga, Ontario, that the Devils are still in the mix. But he would not reveal what other teams are still in it.
The Red Wings submitted their offer on Sunday and haven’t heard back.
Reports indicate Pittsburgh and Chicago are in the mix.
Also, Neil Sheehy, the agent for defenseman Ryan Suter, said his client has not decided yet either and did not provide a time frame for a decision.
And Helene St. James added this:
From DET GM Ken Holland “We have been told nothing” in regards to Zach Parise. #RedWings
Update #2: From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Russo:
Wade Arnott: We have thoroughly deliberated every option with Zach. He wishes to take some time to step back and review all (cond)
(cond) Arnott: with his fiance and his family. We could be drawing closer to a decision.”
Here’s the same from Darren Dreger:
Parise’s agent, Wade Arnott: “We have thoroughly deliberated every option with Zach….
.“He wishes to take some time to step back and review all with his fiance and his family. We could be drawing closer to a decision.”
