Pleiness: No DeKeyser filing for arbitration = salary arbitration-free summer for Wings

Well I will take this news with my $2 ham sandwich (Oleson's Market's deli section powers my summer development camp coverage): the Macomb Daily's Chuck Pleiness reports that Danny DeKeyser did not file for salary arbitration (via RedWingsFeed), and DeKeyser was apparently the only Wing who could do so:

The Wings’ only eligible player for salary arbitration, defenseman Danny DeKeyser, as expected chose not to file by the deadline.

DeKeyser and Tomas Tatar are Detroit’s two remaining restricted free agents.

The team will get deals done with both players by the time training camp opens in September.

The Wings have already re-signed Riley Sheahan and tendered qualifying offers to those they planned on keeping.

Happy to hear that…why can’t Tatar file for it?

Players that are eligible for salary arbitration must have either:

A) 4 years of NHL experience
Or
B) 2 years of NHL experience if they signed their first NHL contract after the age of 20

Tatar was signed at age 19. Tatar has less than 4 years of NHL experience.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
