The Malik Report

Oh yeah, by the way, Nicklas Lidstrom played the last ‘legs’ of his career on a broken ankle

I heard Ken Holland mention this in passing during several interviews I’m cobbling together at present, and, thankfully, MLive’s Ansar Khan is confirming it:

Ken Holland, incidentally, confirmed today that Lidstrom had a hairline fracture in his ankle, not just a deep bone bruise. (cont.)
...
But the injury had no bearing on Lidstrom’s decision. The ankle would have been fine if he wanted to play next season.

Bollocks it didn’t bear on his decision. I bet his inability to heal had quite a bit of weight on his decision.

But then again, I’m no pharmacist so I’ll just STFU.

And I’m fairly sure we sort of figured out his injury was worse than just a bruise…

I’m glad he’s The Perfect Human and not The Perfect Horse. They’d shoot him if that were the case.

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
