Per Fox Sports Detroit:
FOX Sports Detroit attracted another record audience for Thursday’s Game 7 of the NHL Western Conference Semifinal series between the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks.
Based on data received from Nielsen Media Research, the 9:00-11:45 PM (Eastern) telecast registered a 22.5 household rating / 39 share in the Detroit metro area, an average of 423,855 homes tuned in throughout the telecast (one rating point equals approximately 18,838 households). Viewership peaked at a 26.2 rating / 45 share (493,556 HH) from 11:15-11:30, during the third period of the 3-2 loss that ended the Red Wings’ nearly-historic comeback from a 3-0 series deficit.
Thursday marked the second consecutive high-water mark for FOX Sports Detroit, besting the 19.5 rating / 26 share on Tuesday for Game 6 of the Wings-Sharks series.
Based on research conducted by FOX Sports Detroit, the 22.5 rating is the second best for a locally-produced telecast of a Red Wings playoff game in several years, trailing only Game 3 of the 1999 second-round series against Colorado which delivered a 23.8 rating on WKBD-Ch. 50.
Thursday’s game was the second-highest rated Red Wings’ Game 7 among the four contested since 2002, topped only by the finale of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final against Pittsburgh, which had a 28.8 rating locally on NBC/WDIV-Ch. 4.
