Also, Engelland suspended for five games (video) for the hit on Abdelkader.

Because Almqvist.  Or maybe Sproul.

Look, we all know Quincey leaves a lot to be desired as an NHL defenseman.  Given.  Still, he’s a competent #4 or #5, which Almquist or Sproul most certainly is not, at least not this year.

There’s a certain amount of joy in black humor, though.

And the world is right again.  Quincey and competent should never be used together in the same sentence without the words “absolutely not” in between them

And as far as Sproul and Almquist, while they are both deficient in the defense category, they could at least provide a spark of offense and get a puck or two through from the point on the PP.

Neither of them is a replacement for a steady veteran presence, however.

Does Engelland have a history? Because I honestly thought that his hit on Abdelkader was similar to Quincey’s hit on Getzlaf in the sense of, yes, those are situations where guys need to learn to give up the hit, but there was no real apparent intent…

XO is certainly ready for the NHL, and I’d give him a few games to get used to the pace before I’d say he’s a better D-man than Quincey. Lashoff is better than Quincey and Lashoff was a writeoff before he got the callup and surprised everyone. Just because someone is IN the NHL doesn’t mean they deserve to be or that others in the system aren’t better. Holland can’t cut Quincey again and save face after losing 2 first rounders for this bum.
