Nicklas Lidstrom will be featured on a stamp…As will Salming, Lundqivst and…Jorgen Jonsson?

According to both Aftonbladet's Linus Nordberg and Expressen, former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom will soon find his visage on a Swedish postage stamp, just like Peter Forsberg...

But Lidstrom, Borje Salming, Henrik Lundqivst and less-than-successful NHL'er but Swedish World Championship hero Jorgen Jonsson will all be featured on stamps that the Swedish Posten (postal service) will release to help promote the upcoming World Championships.

For the second year in a row, Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland are co-hosting the Worlds, but this time around, the medal rounds will take place in Stockholm, and after having a hard time filling buildings for expensively-priced round robin games last spring, the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation's enlisted Lidstrom, Mats Sundin and Forsberg as ambassadors to drum up business and goodwill going into this year's event.

Maybe Dakkster, I might message you when those come out.  Just curious, do you follow any of the SEL teams?  Seen any Wings prospects over there?

I mainly watch NHL and AHL hockey, but I catch the odd SEL game here and there too, usually to get a look at Wings prospects. You’re going to love Jarnkrok (it’s pronounced yeahrn-crook btw) when he comes over. Sooooo smart, slick and tenacious. Backman is also coming along nicely. I want the Wings to sign Joacim Eriksson, starting goalie for the league’s best team. The Flyers drafted him in 08, I think, but then didn’t sign him and he’s been a free agent since then. Really good guy and I’m surprised every year he’s not signed to an NHL contract.

The thing about the Lidstrom stamp is you can put it in the corner, but it’s still going to cover the entire envelope.

I’m looking forward to your occasional reports on the Wings’ prospects in the SEL, Dakk.  Those are always fun to read.

Cool, I was able to make it to Game 1 of the SEL championship round in 2010 with HV71 playing at DIF at the Hovet Arena.  Great time, I got to see Adam Almqvist play in his first year up with the club, Stevan Liv (RIP) was the netminder and seeing Janne Niinimaa on the ice took me back to the Cup-winning McCarty goal in ‘97.  And it was the only game DIF won in the series =P

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
