WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY: RED WINGS AT FLYERS – WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Detroit (6-4-0) is hoping to snap a two-game losing streak, after rattling off six consecutive wins earlier in October. The Red Wings have benefitted from a balanced scoring attack to start the 2016-17 season, with eight skaters on the roster boasting at least two goals in the first 10 games. Dylan Larkin, who is coming off a 23-goal output in his rookie campaign last season, scored in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Panthers.

The Flyers (4-5-1) enter the week following a 4-3 win against the Hurricanes in Carolina, as Claude Giroux scored and added an assist in the victory. Philadelphia is tied with the New York Rangers for the most goals scored in the NHL this season (35), but has also allowed the most goals in the league (38). Wayne Simmonds is one of eight players tied for the league lead in goals (6), and notched two assists in Sunday’s win against Carolina.

LIGHTNING AT ISLANDERS – TOMORROW AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Lightning (5-4-0) aim for a win tomorrow night in Brooklyn to wrap up a six-game road trip with a .500 record. This marks the first time the two teams will meet since Tampa Bay defeated the Islanders in their second-round playoff series last season in five games. Steven Stamkos is also tied for the league lead in goals (6), and leads the team with 10 points.

The Islanders (4-5-0) are coming off a 5-1 win against the Maple Leafs at home on Sunday, as 10 different Islanders recorded a point and goaltender Thomas Greiss made 33 saves to earn the victory. John Tavares leads the club with four goals, and Brock Nelson (3g/6a) is averaging a point per game through the first nine contests of the season.

SHARKS AT COYOTES – TOMORROW AT 10 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Sharks (6-3-0) have won three straight games heading into this week’s action, including a 4-1 win against Nashville on Saturday, as Joe Pavelski posted a goal and an assist and Joe Thornton scored his first goal of the year. Arizona (2-6-0) has been led offensively by blueliner Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who has scored five goals in the opening eight games of the season.

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
