This is a pretty damn good achievement, no matter how you slice it. For the record (pun not intended), I think this streak is at worst equal to the 29/30 Bruins and 75/76 Flyers.

What got into Hank tonight? That was his best game of the season so far IMO. Amd hallelujah! A Red Wing got the puck in the high slot and didn’t pass off, they shot the fuching puck!

The special teams also seem to be coming around. I know this is way over-simplifying the problem the PK has had, but could it have just been a matter of needing practice time? They did have that brutal stretch on the road, meaning little time to work on problems in practice. Whatever the reason, I think the current high-pressure style is the best bet for this group, because they’ve shown the can be picked apart when they play passive.

I’ll get it started….that hit by Kronwall was dirty with a capital R.

There trolls.  It’s been said.  Now back to your runescape or minecraft of whatever mom is letting you play these days and leave us Wings fans to revel in our moment.  smile

Hell of a game.  Hell.  Of.  A.  Game.

20.  People can asterisk that however the hell they want, it’s damn impressive nonetheless.

I’m a Giants fan (first and foremost when it comes to the MLB…Tigers second) so I’m used to all this Asterisk bollocks…

Anyone else think the flyers should have the asterisk?  Before free agency, before salary cap, after expansion (twice), and competition with the WHA….what a patsy schedule they had.

WIngs would now have home ice over every team except possibly the Rangers (with 3 road games in hand and 2 wins/1 point back) and St. Louis (4 wins back with 2 games in hand, but 31 home games already).  Keep up the home dominance (and hope MacDonald gets better with the stick), and home ice at least in the conference is theirs for the keeping.  Here’s hoping George’s doc gets him on track tomorrow, possibly a new antibiotic.

The 20 straight ties a record that is currently held by three different teams from three different eras.  What the hell then, why not just slap an asterisk on all three of them?  I mean since they’re all from different eras and all.

For me the the most encouraging aspect of these past two games is the fact that the Detroit penalty kill is 9 for 9.  On the heels of fifteen straight games in which they had allowed at least one power play goal against, we can only hope this marks the beginning of a turnabout for the PK.

I’m pretty that sure somewhere along the line they’ve gone two straight games without giving up a power play goal this season, but does anyone know if they’ve put together a three game streak at any point?  Seems like they must have, but I don’t remember it, and I wouldn’t bet the house on it.

Thanks again, Paul, for filling in.

Last night I kept thinking of the famous Babcock quote:  “Your best players got to be your best players.”  Goals from Kronwall, Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Franzen - pretty damned good.

I don’t care about asterisks - what this streak tells me is that the Wings better get home ice for the playoffs.

LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

December 21,1929 - Forward passing rules instituted at the beginning of the 1929-30 season more than doubled number of goals scored. Partway through the season, these rules were further amended to read, “No attacking player allowed to precede the play when entering the opposing defensive zone.” This is similar to modern offside rule.

Asterisk all records. This game changes regularly. There wasn’t even icing in the NHL until the late 30s.
