Lavoie: Wings re-sign Lashoff to 2-way deal

Via Pro Hockey Talk's Mike Halford, this is a depth signing:

Lashoff is something of a defensive stalwart in Grand Rapids, and he can provide depth for the Wings. He'll start the year in the AHL and we'll see where it goes.

He’ll start the year in the AHL and

..hopefully stay there with Eric Tangradi.

Good for him.  He’s been a good sport despite being sort of jerked around.

I don’t mind Lashoff as a 7th/8th d-man sort of role.  He *can* step in temporarily in DET if needed.  But it’s pretty clear at this stage that there aren’t very good long-term NHL prospects for him.

Jerked around?  He’s lucky he’s not in a beer league.  If he felt so jerked around he should have asked for a release

Detroit already has 4 defensemen that are going to be lucky to get any playing time between Ouelette, Jensen, Sproul, and Marchenko and not to mention Russo, where does Lashoff fit?

If Lashoff sees the NHL the Wings are in serious trouble. They should be at least 9 defensemen in front of him.

Maybe should be, but there sadly aren’t.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
