Kulfan speaks with Red Wings GM Ken Holland regarding pro scouting meetings’ conclusion

The Detroit News's Ted Kulfan spoke with Red Wings GM Ken Holland at the conclusion of the team's pre-free-agency pro scouting meetings, and here's what Holland had to say:

added 7:25pm, from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

The Red Wings are likely to dip their toes into the free-agent market, although they probably won't go after big names. General manager Ken Holland will listen to trade offers.

But the bottom line is that the Red Wings' kids will continue to play, other Griffins could get a chance, and Holland isn't likely to move any of his young players in trades.

"We like our kids -- we have good young players who'll play in the NHL for 10 to 15 years," Holland said. "I don't want to get into trades where we're sending two or three of those kids for a 32-year-old player."

As for the Red Wings' own unrestricted free agents, it appears goalie Jonas Gustavsson and forward Daniel Alfredsson are the only players who might return. Gustavsson said after the season he'd like to return to the organization and back up Jimmy Howard.

Mikael Samuelsson definitely headed back to Sweden.

I drink to that.

Holland wouldn’t commit to Bertuzzi, Cleary, Quincey being gone.

Yes, indeed. Let’s all hope Cleary, Bertuzzi and Quincey all worm their way back onto the roster. Who’s ready for October 2013 all over again? Should we expect Tootoo to be in the mix as well?

I’m assuming (hoping) he means quincey, but mentions the group as to not poop on the other two.

When is Hudler coming back? I miss him so. Edler is out of play according to TSN. Canucks don’t plan to ask him to waive his NTC. So no hard decisions there for Kenny. Summer just got a little easier for him.
