Just like the Winter Classic, Red Wings ‘Alumni Showdown’ tickets unlikely to be publicly sold

This should come as no surprise, per the CBC news and RedWingsFeed:

Some hockey fans vying for a seat at the Alumni Showdown Game between retired Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs as part of this year’s Winter Classic may be out of luck. Over the New Year’s Eve weekend, there will be two alumni games during Winter Fest in the lead up to the classic, featuring today’s Leafs and Wings at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

According to the vice president of marketing for the host Red Wings, most of the alumni tickets are already spoken for.

“We really haven’t gone public with the alumni tickets yet. We’re not sure if we will, based upon the demand that we have so far from our season ticket holders and all the Toronto season ticket holders,” Rob Mattina told CBC News.

...

Mattina said 85,000 seats to the alumni games have already been sold and many more remain on hold.

“We’re still going through our database and connecting with our season ticket holders and Toronto has done the same thing,” he said. “We’re going to wait a couple more weeks and at that point we’ll see where we are, and then we’ll see if we need to have a public sale.”

I got my tickets!!!  Granted, they’re far, far away from the ice, but gosh darn it, I’ll be there!!!  Two Time-zone difference be damned!

I guess I won’t bother after all. NYE in Detroit has been a family tradition for a very long time for us. We drive in a few hours, catch the wings, spend the night and drive home the next day. I was hoping to catch the alum game, but I’m not finding a scalper for three tickets.

At least they’re being upfront in that it’s not being marketed to the out of town audience.

The story here: They will be all over the secondary ticket market, that much is certain. I know people who bought partial season-ticket packages to attend the Winter Classic who bought alumni game tickets wanting to go, and some who have no intention of doing anything other than selling their tickets for a profit. You don’t need to find a scalper any more.

We’re not getting the actual tickets until Late November or Early December, so it’s possible nobody is selling them yet because they don’t have them yet.
