Just Do It Detroit

Ansar Khan of Mlive,

The Detroit Red Wings endured a season-long struggle just to stay afloat.

They had trouble scoring. Their power play was in shambles until the final weeks. Their defense was mistake-prone. Both goaltenders slumped badly at different times. Too many players regressed.

They lost games they should have won down the stretch and needed help on the final day to extend their playoff streak to 25 seasons.

They made it back, and they're not satisfied just being here, after getting eliminated in the first round in three of the past four seasons....

"We have a good team," Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "We believe in ourselves. I thought we had a good process this year, but we know the first round is probably the toughest.

"We have a good enough team to do some damage and we're looking forward to doing it."

Yes. Please.

We need you to have a short memory and forget the forgettable season.  Show us this team is as good as it is on paper and show no mercy and great urgency every second, every battle, every game.

LGRW!

if the brass can only take the right decisions…it would certainly help. We finished the season 7 points less than last year and all of this with, what i believe, a better team.

What went wrong ?  We went through probably our worst season since i can’t remember.

To suddenly see the real Wings starting tomorrow is something i have some problems anticipating….

The power play picked up almost immediately once Mantha was inserted into the lineup – and then went straight into the crapper once he was replaced in the lineup by Andersson. Just a coincidence? It would be a hell of one if that’s all it was.

Well there’s some lofty expectations for ya: “Come on, guys, let’s do some damage because we’re good enough to do that.” That sure sounds like a guy who knows full well that they’re not good enough to do anything more than make a little noise in the playoffs before they start making tee times.

Having said that, I do believe that we’ll see a fire in the bellies of Z, Pavel and Kronner that we haven’t seen in quite a while. And maybe, just maybe, that might be enough to get the Wings into the second round. After that, injuries and who their next opponent is will determine what happens next.

To be fair, wasn’t Mantha replaced by Jurco for the last three games before being sent back to GR after the loss to NYR? Not to take away from the bigger point, though. Our PP was better with Mantha in the lineup. Clearly, that means he needs to be in GR.

Of course.  Do you think an AHL spare part is the answer?  Come on!

Just an incredible dumb quote by the man who drafted him. Just imagine if you’d be Mantha how you’d feel right now.

Maybe that’s what sparks Mantha ? Since JD’s comment Mantha,s been a much better prospect.

Yup, Alan, I think you’re right. But, in the end, it’s Andersson who’s replacing Mantha (or Jurco or Pulky) for the playoffs. Since he is in, I just hope he doesn’t score a goal on his 1st shift. If he does, he’ll be benched for the rest iof the game. It’s the Blashill Way.
