Jeff Blashill Wants To Make Sure Riley Sheahan Plays With Confidence

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

Jeff Blashill pulled Riley Sheahan aside and gave the Detroit Red Wings forward a message....

“The biggest thing I just wanted to make sure with him is that he keeps his confidence up,” Blashill said Thursday at Gila River Arena, where the Wings were scheduled to play an evening game against the Arizona Coyotes. “Riley is a 12-13 goal scorer in this league. He has proven that. That wasn’t by fluke. It wasn’t because he was playing with certain guys. It was because that is what he is.”

Sheahan has started the season on the fourth line, but “the biggest thing with him is, he’s a guy who without question can move up the lineup,” Blashill said. “He’s done it before. He’s just got to make sure his game is ready whenever the door of opportunity opens.

added 5:31pm, from Dana Wakiji of the Wings' website,

One returns while another sits out for the Red Wings.

Veteran defenseman Niklas Kronwall is ready to return after missing the first three games of the season with a tweaked groin while Danny DeKeyser is out.

"It's been a while so it's definitely anxious to get back in there and just play again," Kronwall said. "Did a little bit more battle stuff yesterday and everything feels good so should be good to go."

Kronwall missed the first 11 games last season due to his chronic knee issues.

"It's big for us," captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "Coming into camp he looked really good. Then injuries happened. He worked himself back here and he's ready to go. On the ice, off the ice, he's a leader. He plays a lot of minutes, he plays all situations. We're happy to have him back."

when you read stuff like that i see the obssession of a coach….Riley Sheahan !

in the meantime Frk, who has been great so far, got rewared with a demotion to the third line, all in the profit of good ol useless Abby….a vet, of course. Blashill needs support in the dressing room…

It’s pretty discuraging to root for this team when you decisions like that and comments like he did about Sheahan….

And then people wonder why AA isn’t holding out for more money, but is simply trying to escape this clueless organization…

Kate, what I’m afraid of is Blashill getting a contract extension by Thanksgiving.

I can see it now….Sheahan gets one goal and moves into the top six because he’s on a hot streak.

Where have you seen anything beyond speculation that AA isn’t holding out for more money? From what I’ve all his overseas offers are more than the Red Wings offer. I’m not saying it’s not possible that his reasons for holding out is Blash or the state of the Red Wings. Yet, if he doesn’t want to play for this org due to these speculations, why hasn’t a trade request been made public? His agent and AA are pretty outspoken individuals, so why haven’t they came out with a trade request? Until something like that comes out it’s pure hearsay and speculation. May want to take you hate glasses off and not present it as fact.

——if this was the case and money was the only issue, he would have played in Russia already. Even if gets $2.5mil from KH he apparently is asking for, it is still less than $2.5 mil tax free offer from Omsk.

In the same way, if he doesnt want to play for blash, kenny, the org, why hasnt he signed somewhere else?

He could be holding out for a variety of reasons, but if money was the main reason, he would be playing in KHL for $3 mil tax free already as he knows he is not getting an equivalent to that in NHL.

Publicly demanding a trade may rub other GMs the wrong way…making AA a less desireable acquisition, while also making Kenny’s job to trade him more difficult. So all parties involved may have agreed to keep this aspect quiet. Once the relationship between AA and the Wings reached a point of no return, all parties may have just agreed that we’ll make this seem about money. You’re not a cancer. You’re not a bad guy. In fact, you are a dynamic, exciting player and we just unfortunately can’t sign you because of cap constraints. That will help us negotiate a better trade for us.

So everyone just be patient. We’re going to trade you. But it might take a few weeks.

All speculation. But if it was simply about a few hundred thousand dollars, don’t you think AA and his agent realize that they are already losing that by missing paycheques. They aren’t stupid. He wants out.

Maybe he only wants to play in the NHl and was using those offers as negotiating tactics to get the money he wants?

As I said, I’m not saying this isn’t the case. Just find it interesting how once the speculation was made of it being about Blash and KH it became a fact around here. Just don’t present it as fact when none of know what the source is behind the holdout.

The “cap constraints” are being blown overboard. If a GM has to and wants to make room for a player, he’ll find a way to make it happen. This happens every year.

Honestly, yeah. Because here are some new things to discuss:

Does Sheahahn, aside from injury, really have a chance to move up the lineup? Look at eho is in front of him.

After 3 games and no goals, how much trade value does he really have? Has he only hurt his value since the start of the season?

At this point, is he even worth trying to save? Can he be saved?

I think he does, outside of last year, he’s proved to be a pretty solid 3rd liner. Should be able to contribute 20 to 30 pts a year. He has a wicked wrister, just doesn’t use it enough.

I don’t think he’s hurt his trade value. 3 games in a no goals isn’t bad, he’s not Laine. 50 games in and no goals? I’d say at that point he has to trade value.

He can on the proper team, I just don’t think the Wings are that proper team to “save” him

About 2 weeks ago it was reported that Omsk pulled there offer, Swiss team was happy with there 5 imports….no Current/active offers that I have seen, aside from the BS KH $1.25M low ball for 1 year, $1.9M 2 yr offer.

IMO, I would be pissed if I received 1 yr at $1.25 offer. This could have started the standoff all by itself

Why not 2 yrs at $1.9 M?  KH is a clown with the prospects salary. I expect Mantha to be a problem next yr, not so much Larkin.

All in all Blashill is responsible for fed up prospects, messing with their ice time, playing them all over the place, sitting them, publicly criticising them (A BIG NO NO in any sport)

Couldn’t agree with you more. I’d be pretty livid with the 1.2 offer. Could have very well started that as well. It’s like being licensed in HVAC and being offered 10$ an hour, we you should clearly get 20$ an hour or up. Than you got teammates that are being paid 15$ an hour to flip burgers

Kenny and Blash spent the summer writing cue cards and then reading them to each other each day to fuel their delusions…

1) Sheahan is a 12-13 goal scorer
2) Abby is a top 6 power forward who can score 20+ goals
3) Helm is the best 3C in the world
4) Glendening shut down Tyler Johnson that one time
5) Kronwall is a PP quarterback (since he’s the best at walking the blue line)
6)) Dekeyser and Daley is a #1 pair

And on and on.Keep dreamin guys…
