Holland, Red Wings’ players talk about roster moves, lockout from Ilitch Charities golf classic

Several Red Wings players and GM Ken Holland took part in Monday's Ilitch Charities Golf Classic, and while only some of the interviews have hit the web (thus far), Holland told WDIV's Bernie Smilovitz that he, "Would like to make a move," whether it's a signing and/or trade over the next couple of weeks, to strengthen the defense (no video, sorry)...

WDIV did post a 31-image photo gallery from the event (Henrik Zetterberg? Check. Jakub Kindl? Czech)...

And, via RedWingsFeed, WXYZ's Brad Galli spoke to the players about their day at Oakland Hills...

"It's always fun to be a part of this event, give back a little bit, and make some good friends," Henrik Zetterberg said.

The forward was joined in Bloomfield Township by a bevy of teammates including Tomas Holmstrom, Cory Emmerton, Drew Miller, Justin Abdelkader, and Jakub Kindl.

And as you might expect, their opinions on what seems like an inevitably-looming lockout:

With negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA at a standstill, Zetterberg shed light on the state of the discussions.

"We're not real close. We're still working on it to find a fair deal. There's still time, hopefully we can get together in the next couple weeks and figure it out."

The league is only eight years removed from the infamous lockout that eventually cancelled the 2004-05 season. Zetterberg says this time around, the situation is different.

Drew Miller, who grew up in a hockey family, said the game has never been at a higher point of popularity, and doesn't want to see that trend stop.

"I hope we're playing. The game is growing. Hopefully we can play from the start. If not, I hope it's not too long of a lockout," he said.

Galli also spoke to Kris Draper about participating in the Winter Classic Alumni Showdown, and WXYZ should eventually post a video of the players' comments to Galli.

The Wings also posted a pair of Twitter-embedded photos from the event....

And something tells me that Red Wings TV's Will Posthumhus was there, too:

I'm with Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) when it comes to golf, but I hear that Oakland Hills is a gorgeous course, and I hope lots and lots and lots of money was raised for charity today.

Update: In case you're interested, from the Wings' Facebook page:

Team Draper shot a 54 in a scramble at the Ilitch Charities Celebrity Golf Classic, which was good for a first place tie with screenwriter and actor Mike Binder's team.

Alex Lyall of Team Draper also recorded a hole-in-one on Hole 17!

I despise golf, but it’s always good to see money raised for charity.  What did Mark Twain say?

Twain supposedly said “Golf is a good walk spoiled,” though there’s some question whether the quote rightly belongs to him.
