The Malik Report

Hey, hey, bracket-town

The Detroit Free Press's "best nickname in Michigan sports" bracket is down to Mr. Hockey vs. The Captain...

Which follows fans having named Fox Sports Detroit's Ken Daniels the best Michigan sports broadcaster, Claude Lemieux the most hated opposing team's athlete and the 1997 Wings' Cup win as the best Michigan sports championship. Not bad, the so-called town of hockey.

That’s just a horsebleep popularity contest for the players the nickname stuck to, though.

If we’re just talking best Detroit nickname in sports it’s ‘The Microwave’, hands down, no question, in a runaway.  I mean, come on.  VJ’s never in a million years going to win a beauty contest with Howe and Yzerman though.

I cannot argue with any of this.  Mr. Hockey for the win.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
