Have the Red Wings signed Richard Nedomlel?

This hasn't been confirmed, but it's an intriguing little tidbit from my search engine monkeys and chilly666 on Hockeyfights.com, the ever-reliable Renaud Lavoie reports that the Wings have signed another BIG prospect defenseman:

Nedomlel's a 6'5," 231-lb. defenseman who's played for the WHL's Swift Current Broncos for the past three seasons. RedWingsCentral and Hockey's Future accurately describe the 19-year-old and 175th overall pick in the 2011 draft as a stay-at-home defenseman with a mean streak, but Nedomlel did register 28 points in 72 games with Swift Current this past season.

Nedomlel and Lincoln Stars (USHL) captain and Western Michigan University-committed defenseman Mike McKee, who's another 6'4," 230-pound behemoth, represent part of the Wings' attempts to add some size and downright meanness to their pool of prospects.

If this kid and McKee are our future…...I LIKE IT! We’ve been pushed around way too long

We’re playing in the Eastern Conference next year, More Shoot, a much more physical and grinding conference than the West.  I would hope the Wings plan to get bigger.

I don’t think size is their issue right now.  I think skill is their issue.  And focus.  And passion.  Their not so much small right now as they are stale.

6’5”, 231 pounds with a “mean streak”...
It is about time!

Teams have been pounding the Wings for years, and it has affected their ability to play the game…
Especially in the playoffs, where it is largely a battle of attrition.

Babcock knows what (who) it takes to win…  that size and pugnacity are important factors.

I gather that he has considerable influence with Ken Holland, so we can expect to draft more big guys with a mean streak.

Will Babcock still be the coach in 6 years when this kid maybe makes the squad?

Hey George not sure if you covered it but the Journal de Montreal also has an article on Xavier Ouellet where he confirmed he wants to turn pro next year (no overage season) but indicated the Wings will be the ones making the call (last paragraph).

http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2013/04/03/xavier-ouellet-est-en-mission

It also says that he was he thinks his team is good enough to win the Q’s title. His GM praises him saying he was really on his game and did all the small things that helps a team win a series. He finished that series with 5 points and plus 6 defensively.

Ouellet said he learned a ton playing with the Canadian Juniors, especially how fine a line it is between winning and losing. He also said he played the entire tournament with an ankle injury. He’s dedicated himself to not having the same losing experience in what he things will be his last QMJHL playoff run.

RW19….”(last paragraph)”

well that clears up EVERYTHING!

Google translation of that last paragraph…. rather literal translation but it’ll work.
“The hope of the Detroit Red Wings prepares to make the jump to the professional next season. Even though he tries not to think so better concentrate on the present moment, Ouellet know that those who drafted him decide his fate.”

I’m guessing Kenny Holland took a look into the future and saw the Eastern Conference. Hopefully some of these guys pan out.

On the Ouellet article ... The last paragraph translated reads ...

“L’espoir des Red Wings de Detroit se prépare à faire le saut chez les professionnels dès la saison prochaine. “

The Wings prospect is preparing himself for a jump to the pros as early as next year.

“Même s’il essaie de ne pas y penser pour ainsi mieux se concentrer sur le moment présent, Ouellet sait que ceux qui l’ont repêché décideront de son destin.”

Though he is trying not to think about it so that he can better focus on the task at hand, as Quellet knows that the team that drafted him will decide his fate.

Google translator was not far off.

Man - that’s a lot of defensemen that could be in GR next season!

Aye.  Along with Sproul, Backman, and Nicastro.  Coach Blashill will be absolutely thrilled with the kids he’s being charged with.
