The Grand Rapids Griffins posted a Tweet reminding fans that their annual "Tip a Griffin" charitable event is taking place tomorrow, and Tuesday's charitable event very literally has the players engaging in community service:
TIP-A-GRIFFIN RETURNS NOV. 18
(The Griffins revised their lineups via email: Jordin Tootoo's now taking part and the 3 remaining locations will now include those who were supposed to take part in the Ucello's event in Caledonia, MI):
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins usually look for tips near the net, but on Monday, Nov. 18 from 6-8 p.m., they’ll exchange their jerseys for aprons in an evening of serving appetizers, entrees and beverages to patrons at Uccello’s Ristorante, in the return of the team’s popular Tip-A-Griffin fundraiser.
Griffins players, coaches and hockey staff will visit all four Uccello’s locations in West Michigan to serve and wait tables, with donations and raffle proceeds benefiting the Griffins Youth Foundation. In its previous seven editions, Tip-A-Griffin raised nearly $70,000 for various local charities.
The Griffins will be dispersed to each location as follows (lineups subject to change):
Grand Rapids (2630 East Beltline Ave. SE)Grandville (3940 Rivertown Pkwy. SW)
John Bernal - Athletic trainer
Jeff Blashill – Head coach
Spiros Anastas – Assistant coach
Jim Paek - Assistant coach
Andrew Stegehuis – Assistant equipment manager
Standale (4787 Lake Michigan Dr.)
Brad Thompson – Equipment manager
Each of the four locations will include raffle items and a visit from the team’s mascot, Griff. Raffle items include Griffins memorabilia, ticket packages, various gifts from sponsors, and specially-designed aprons that Griffins personnel will be wearing for the night, which will be signed and auctioned off at the end of the event.
Established in 1995, the Griffins Youth Foundation promotes academic excellence, community involvement and healthy lifestyles among the youth of West Michigan, enhancing their lives through hockey and ice-related sports. For more information about the Foundation, please visit griffinskids.org.
The Griffins also posted a pair of videos, with the first illustrating Tomas Jurco's hat trick against Rockford this past Friday...
And let's just say that the second video is a bit more whimsical. Griffins play-by-play announcer Bob Kaser attempts to discern whether Mitchell Callahan, Ryan Sproul, Andrej Nestrasil and Nathan Paetsch can spell Teemu Pulkkinen's last game. Let's just say that things do not go well for everyone not named Nestrasil:
