Griffins confirm adding Paterson, Nedomlel to the mix

Update #2: I believe that Alexei Marchenko's also in Grand Rapids based upon photographic evidence: As noted this morning, Capgeek.com's added Richard Nedomlel to the Red Wings' organizational chart, and while the Red Wings have yet to confirm whether they've signed Nedomlel, and Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins have yet to say thing about Jatkoiaka's Matias Strozyk's report that Teemu Pulkkinen will spend the balance of the 2012-2013 season with Grand Rapids...

The Griffins issued a press release confirming Ryan Sproul's Tweet that he joined Grand Rapids, and today, via RedWingsFeed, the Griffins are reporting that Nedomlel's joined the team on an amateur try-out, and that the same is true of Jake Paterson, who stated that he would be aiding the Grifins' cause as well:

The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday signed defenseman Richard Nedomlel (NEE-duhm-ehl) and goaltender Jake Paterson to amateur tryouts.

Nedomlel, 19, appeared in 72 games with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos this season, tallying 28 points (7-21—28). The 6-foot-5, 231-pound defenseman placed 10th overall and second among his team’s defensemen in scoring and also ranked second with 105 penalty minutes. In 210 career WHL contests, the Prague, Czech Republic, native has registered 84 points (17-67—84) and 295 penalty minutes. Nedomlel was Detroit’s eighth choice (175th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Paterson, 18, posted a 25-21-2 record, a 3.53 goals against average, a 0.901 save percentage and one shutout in 50 contests with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit this season. A third-round pick (80th overall) of Detroit in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Mississauga, Ontario, native sports a 46-41-5 record, a 3.45 GAA and a 0.903 save percentage in 97 career OHL games. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound netminder also represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, but he did not appear in game action.

The Griffins will open their final homestand of the regular season this week with three home games in four nights. Grand Rapids will host Chicago on Wednesday, Milwaukee on Friday and Peoria on Saturday. All games will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.

The Red Wings confirmed that they'd signed Northern Michigan University goalie Jared Coreau last Wednesday, and while he hasn't appeared during a practice yet, he's listed on both Capgeek's Wings organization chart and on the Red Wings' roster page, and over the past three games, he's been listed as a goalie wearing #0 (an illegal number in the NHL) on the Red Wings' official list of scratches.

It's safe to say that Coreau will begin to share the practice nets with Jimmy Howard and Jonas Gustavsson sometime over the next week to ten days.

Update: the Griffins just Tweeted the following:

Their link goes to a Flickr photo gallery in which Paterson, Sproul, Jarnkrok and Nedomlel are taking part in a Griffins practice ran by...Chris Osgood.

The Griffins play home games on Wednesday (vs. Chicago), Friday (vs. Milwaukee) and Saturday (vs. Peoria), and as they have to return Calle Jarnrkrok to Sweden on April 14th so that he's able to prepare for playing in the World Chapionships as a member of the Swedish national team, now's as good a time as any to get a gander at the Wings' next wave of top prospects.

Update #1.5: RedWingsCentral's added a Jared Coreau profile and scouting report to the mix, too. Methinks he'll be the subject of tomorrow's prospect report.

Update #2: The three sticks in the stick rack picture? The third one is an Easton stick that says "MARCHENKO," so Alexei Marchenko's apparently made his way to Grand Rapids as well. This right-handed defenseman appears to be Marchenko.

I like 6’5”.

I can’t find it anywhere, anyone how many points Yarncruke has since he’s joined GR?

The 6"5 is great and so is the 2nd among d-men in scoring and 2nd with 105 PIM.

Very excited.

I live in Philly so I see certain Eastern teams as much as the Wings. Not excited about every team in next year’s division.

Bruins are going to be tough for a while Chara and Hamilton. Not excited to see them next season, unless someone on D becomes a legit #1/#2 to play with Kronwall.

Jeebus, who else is in the works.  After Kronner, E52, DeKeyser, Kindl, Lashoff, and Q [snickers], there’s:

-Sproul
-Oullette
-Backman
-Marchenko
-Nedomlel
-Nicastro
-Marshall (after Sproul, I can’t wait to see this guy in a Wings sweater)

Spoiled.  Just flushed with promising defensemen.

Griffins have one huge roster!  Good for the young Wings to get to play some Pro hockey in a winning environment before camps open next year.

Lots of depth in the prospect pool at every position, should be fun to watch these guys develop!!

And McKee’s just 20 y.o.  Jeebus, what’s his size once he’s 22 or 23…

Well, how much of that is muscle and how much of that is Subway?  Hopefully our training staffs can work with that kid and turn him into a brick house by the time he hits the Wings.

Gotta say, since I found TMR these updates on the prospects have become one of my favorite things to read up on.  Always interesting to see which ones make it up through the ranks.

As much as the past few losses have stung for the Wings, thinking about better days ahead helps ease the sting.  So an atta boy to George for posts like these.

And you still forgot Almqvist, unless I missed a falling out with him.  I thought last I’d heard he had more promise than about half of the rest of the guys on that list, even though he’s small.

Red Wings can’t fall out of 8th by the time of Thursday’s game but a couple made a leap at their heels tonight.

Wings have put up just 4 points in 6 games.

All the brain trust has done over the last four years is… build the farm system.  Ken Holland had nothing to do with that. smirk  I’m not happy with how this pretend season has gone but the future is bright.  However that future may take a few seasons to come to pass.  I’ve been around for fifty years as a fan… so I’m not goin’ anywhere.
