Garrioch on Blashill

The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch suggests that Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill's seat is getting warm:

It may be early, but the heat has been turned up in the Motor City. As the Detroit Red Wings tried to halt their six-game losing streak Saturday against the Florida Panthers, the whispers had already started about the future of coach Jeff Blashill. Yes, the 43-year-old Blashill was the hand-picked successor of GM Ken Holland when Mike Babcock left for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, but the clock is ticking and the Red Wings aren’t showing any signs of improvement. Before the game against Florida, Blashill had a 78-72-25 record behind Detroit’s bench, but the Red Wings also missed the playoffs last season. You’d have to think that, if the Red Wings decide to make a coaching switch, they may turn to Tippett

Two words: Todd Nelson. The Red Wings already have an NHL-ready coach in the Grand Rapids Griffins' bench boss.

Anyway, Garrioch continues...

Do not recycle Tippett. He’s a dinosaur. Give Nelson a look. Or maybe snap up Julien, Gallant, Trotz, McLellan, oh wait, other GMs did that..

So sad that 2 major newspapers, the Macomb Daily, Oakland Press, and MLive don’t , can’t or won’t write anything like this. It takes a paper in Ottawa to print it.

I stopped reading when he implied that we lose against FLA when the game hasn’t even started yet.

But to the bigger point here, I think Blash is in over his head. He was nothing short of solid when working with the kids in GR, but he doesn’t seem to be willing to change up on-the-fly.

Screw Tippet. No way I’d want that.

I was a big supporter of Blashill becoming an NHL coach, He was young, seemed to have good relations with the Griffins and he was winning and running a good offense. When he moved up to the Red Wings he was a different person. I would want some assurance that Nelson would not do the same. I don’t know what the reason is. Pressure from the owner of front office maybe?
