The Malik Report

Garrioch discusses GM’s futures, Sabres sell-offs, Vanek etc.

Edit: OOPS WRONG BLOG OH WELL.

The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch begins his Sunday rumor column discussing the fates of Nashville Predators GM David Poile, Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis and Washington Capitals GM George McPhee, but I'm guessing that you won't find that news scintillating, so here are a few other highlights from a column discussing Jeremy Roenick's possible role in a Seattle-based franchise and the Senators' possible player personnel moves:

The cap is expected to go up $6 to $7 million. You really have to wonder just how much a guy like Colorado centre Paul Statsny will cash in if he does decide to become a UFA. Lots of teams will be looking for help up the middle ... Expect to see Sabres GM Tim Murray try to do more wheeling and dealing in the off-season. He would still like to move forwards Drew Stafford and Tyler Ennis and defenceman Christian Erhoff. The club will also listen to offers for blueliner Tyler Myers. The belief is Murray wants to tear this down and get it right.

And I still shake my head at the price the Canadiens paid for Thomas Vanek, but there's no doubt that he's a strict rental:

All eyes will be on left winger Thomas Vanek when he becomes a UFA on July 1. While there has been talk he may stay with the Habs, many believe that’s not even a remote possibility. A lot of people in the hockey world think Vanek is ready to sign with Minny and the ticket is already punched. Don’t discount the Los Angeles Kings. They will certainly make a pitch

Garrioch continues at length...
