FSD: Red Wings’ Henrik Zetterberg won’t play today vs. Florida

Per Fox Sports Detroit's John Keating, the Red Wings are going to sit Henrik Zetterberg against Florida as his "upper-body injury" is acting up, and with Franzen returning, the team's going to hold Zetterberg out for precautionary reasons.

Update:

So much for scratching Cleary.

Update #2: From the AP:

Zetterberg didn't play Sunday night and Ken Holland says the team's leading forward is day-to-day.

He was hurt during Friday night's game against Montreal.

The Red Wings did welcome back forward Johan Franzen against the Panthers after he missed 16 games with a concussion.

Pavel Datsyuk was out for a 10th straight game with a lower-body injury and Holland says the centre is day-to-day. Jimmy Howard missed a third game in a row with an injured left knee and Holland says the goaltender might play Tuesday night at Philadelphia.

Forward Joakim Andersson missed his sixth straight game with a lower-body injury. He is expected to return against the Flyers or Friday night against Washington.

Z missed 6 minutes in period 1 of the Montreal game…Supposedly stretching.
He continues to struggle against back trouble, and his leadership and play recently, through his pain, has been inspiring.

big surprise

Ugh, no one bought that “stretching” comment. I had a feeling something was going to come up again, when he just kept skipping practice after practice.

Years from now, when Z and Pav are retired, we might look back and wonder what their numbers could be if it weren’t for significant injuries the last few seasons and the fact that they started in the NHL later than lots of elite players do.

Z got beaten up pretty badly vs. Montreal. Whatever’s ailing him, if he’s sore or whatever, the team’s been playing every other day for 11 days now, and they play in Philly on Tuesday. Sit him and let him get healthy.
