Former Wing Joey MacDonald rewarded for losing performance by being placed on waivers

He's anything but the Red Wings' player anymore, but this move absolutely baffles me, per Flames Nation's Kent Wilson, who reports that Rito Berra and Karri Ramo will now be Calgary's goaltending tandem, with Joey MacDonald heading to the Abbotsford Heat:

MacDonald was fine in the Wings' 4-3 win over Calgary, but...Well, I still don't get this one.

If by “fine” you mean allowing two bad goals in the third period of a 2-2 game and giving up a bad rebound into the slot (to Pav of all people) on the first goal when he clearly saw the slapper all the way from the point and just missed it with the glove hand, yes, I agree, that was a “fine” performance.

The move is just as “baffling” when you throw in his 3.16 GAA and .885 SV%.  I’m sure 29 teams will be lining up for his services.

The new era in Flames netminding begins post-Kipper.
Berra and Ramo probably won’t last long in the NHL but they gotta see which one wants the TG gig in cowtown.
Joey Mac had a decent run but that effort last night was gross.

Kind of baffling that this would baffle anyone…

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
