Evgeny Svechnikov Wants To Play For The Wings

from Brian Hedger at NHL.com,

Evgeny Svechnikov will start training camp with the Detroit Red Wings on Friday with one goal in mind.

The 20-year-old Russian forward wants to help the Red Wings return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after they missed it for the first time in 25 seasons.

"I want to be a Red Wing," said Svechnikov, who was taken by Detroit with the No. 19 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. "I don't want to just make the team. I want to make it better, and I'm just trying to find a way to make that possible. So, I'm going to go out there [in camp] and just try to do my best. If I can make the team better, I could have a chance [to make the team]."

Too bad kid, you aren’t old enough.

Nice attitude by Svech, but the chances of him making the team this season are zero.

It’s notable that Hedger says Svech wants to be a Red Wing this season.

Now talk amongst yourselves…

oh dang. I didn’t get the memo that said I was supposed to be negative.

Please don’t, enough of that goes around. I can’t wait for Svech to be a full time Red Wing, he’s certainly been exciting over in Grand Rapids. I’m thinking he gets called up during mid to tail end of the season. If he doesn’t stick full time from his call up, he’ll be full time next season ala the Tats, Mantha, AA route.

Benz nailed it. Whats the rush to bring him up with this dumpster fire of a team? Give him another season in the AHL. Or at least 3/4.

He just made a great play to cause a turnover in the ozone. Led to the first goal.

Svech needs to be a top 6 winger. That means he has to beat out Tatar, Nyquist, or Mantha.Notice I didn’t mention Abby since it’s just pre-determined that he’s in the top 6…you know, because he hits, is from Michigan, and just got married so might bounce back.

We can’t have Svech in the bottom 6 playing 7 minutes per night. He’s better off playing 34 minutes a night in the AHL. So how he stacks up versus Helm (now used as a winger), Sheahan (also used as a winger), PA Parenteau is meaningless. It’s top 6 or nothing. Also, if Svech happens to outperform Nyquist, Tatar, or Mantha…well it’s possible he was just playing his shifts against AHL competition. A real EVERYDAY’ER needs to perform against the best and never take a night off.

Also, Svech needs to build up more stock. Like Helm. And Abby. Svech owns too many bonds in his 401k.

I’d hope that every prospect coming to camp is thinking the exact same thing as Svechnikov.

Our prospects lead 2:0 after two. Sambrook and Holmstrom with the goals.

Sadowy makes it 3-0. Picked up his own rebound, around the net, turned at the top of the right circle and bang.

I’d give Svech a chance, can always send him down later.  We need scoring and Bert can’t provide that.

It will be interesting to see how Shine does this year in GR. Needs another 10-15 lbs, but he was a bright spot on the scoresheet during the prospects tourney.
Bummed Rasmussen didn’t show more, but he is only 18. I couldn’t watch any of the games because I don’t live in MI anymore. Anyone stand out in a good way to those who saw the games?

Shine hit the scoresheet best. Saarijarvi looked good imo. Ras showed he can be more than another Sheahan (or what we’ve seen of Sheahan so far).

Ras has shown that his skating is still sub-par. Probably not as awful as some had feared. But in a league based on speed, he’s lacking. In fact, many of our prospects are in the same boat. Holmstrom, Turgeon, Sadowy, Zablocki…none of these guys have NHL wheels.

in golf, isn’t subpar a good thing?
