Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves is being evaluated after sustaining a lower-body injury in practice today at Joe Louis Arena.

The club said it hoped to have an update on his condition later today or tomorrow.

Eaves went down in front of the net, holding his knee in pain. He had to be helped off the ice by teammates.

Eaves was not schedule to play in tonight's preseason game at Boston (7 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit):

Hypothetical pre-practice conversation:

KH and MB: “Okay Bert, it has been a while since you did anything overly violent. We need you to take out Patty’s knees for us during drills this morning. Make it look accidental. We’ve gotta have space for Tatar and Nyquist.”

TB: *salivating and grunting*

KH and MB: “Good, that’s the spirit. Tomorrow, we’ll work on ‘fixing’ the contracts we handed to Sammy and Toots.”

I hate to see this happen to Patrick Eaves.  He missed last season with a concussion…  Now this…  The guy is a true “gamer”, and gives 1000%.
Good luck to him.
