Babcock is showing some real faith in Tatar considering putting him on the PP point like that. I know it was a rough way for Tatar to start the season, but I’m really impressed with him. He has worked hard, clearly had a good attitude despite initially being the odd-man-out, even as he was having the best camp of all the forwards. It has paid off… he’s made a ton out of his ice time since he cracked the lineup and it’s clear he’s here to stay. And kudos to Babcock for rewarding Tatar’s patience, hard work, and talent… the kid’s foot speed has to have you a little worried about being on the point like this, but he’s shown he’s a smart player and hard on the puck for a little guy, and he knows how to shoot.

I’m happy for Tatar.  But it’s…troubling…that Brendan Smith can’t hold on to a spot on the second power play unit.

If there was a 3rd PP unit Smith would probably be the sole defenseman on the blueline. Going with a single defenseman on each power play unit, it makes sense that Kronwall and DeKeyser would be slotted ahead of him.

Wings on use 1 D because their all lefties, and their PP system is predicated on one dman high that works to the middle blueline flanked by two shooters wide high slots, and yuo want to have the correct handed shot on both sides to fire.

Looks like same lineup.  Howard starting.

Thanks for that video clip. At the very end Legwand is asked when the trade talk started and he said 12:30 (CST) ... so obviously, as a lot of us assumed/realized, KH’s hand was ultimately forced into getting a centre once the reports came back on Pavel & Helmer.

All that aside, looking forward to the game tonight. LGRWs!

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
