Detroit’s Morning Practice

Khan tweets,

No Datsyuk or Alfredsson at practice today. Franzen and Helm skating but really taking part in line rushes.

Lines they started with: Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader, Jurco-Sheahan-Bertuzzi, Miller-Andersson-Samuelsson, Cleary-Glendening-Eaves.

More updates coming...

added 10:53am, More from Khan,

All three goalies are alternating in nets. Mrazek, Howard and Gustavsson going from end to end.

Defense pairs the same as yesterday: Kronwall-Smith, Quincey-DeKeyser, Lashoff-Kindl, Ericsson also skating but not playing tomorrow.

added 11:50am, Khan...

Howard said he is good to go and was told he will start tomorrow at Rangers.

Please don’t tell me that we won’t get anyone back for Thursday… at least one of Datsyuk/Alfredsson/Helm… please.

Yep MS, here is the Khan tweet,

Meant to say Franzen and Helm NOT taking part in line rushes. Doesn’t look like they’re playing.

Jurco-Sheahan-Bertuzzi

I think the odds of winning the lottery are better than the odds of anyone guessing in October that those three would be a second-line combo in January. At least Cleary’s been moved down to the 4th line where he belongs.

I’m at a point where I don’t really consider Helm to be a fixture in this lineup moving forward…not just this season but the remainder of his contract.

I was never one who agreed with the argument that Detroit’s remaining comp. buyout should be used on Franzen, as the cap hit itself was very affordable given his output (however inconsistent his play is). However Franzen is now 34, he’s only going to regress, he has what appears to be a pretty significant head injury which can reappear later on from relatively benign hits and his contract runs for about another 20 seasons. I know that it will never happen and that Holland would never consider trading him even if healthy, but if there was ever a time to consider buying him out…

He doesn’t belong on the ice at all. I’d rather have Tootoo logging top 6 minutes and manning the point on the first PP unit than have Cleary playing 4th line minutes.

If the Wings were smart they should look to move Helm while he still has some value. Time to cut the cord with the guy, especially if he thinks its funny to keep playing the injury card.

So Jonas is still on IR and Mrazek continues to sit.  Mrazek is a horse and he proved he can handle long stretches of work in GR.  Sorry, I’d sit Jimmy for Razer against the Rangers.

That’s really cool, Boss.  I use this guy’s site for cap hits for the injured.
