Detroit beats PIttsburgh 5-4 discuss

Updated with an assload of videos and some other stuff at 11:43 PM: DISCUSS THE RED WINGS' 5-4 WIN OVER PITTSBBURGH WILL POST GOALS SHORTLY

I JUST LITERALLY JUMPED UP AND DOWN LIKE A LITTLE GIRL AND GIGGLED THE WHOLE TIME.

The Red Wings took a 2-0 lead, dropped down 3-2 in stunning fashion, rallied to go up 4-3, gave up the game-tying goal, David Legwand should be suspended for this...

And the Wings won because Alfredsson scored with less than a second left in overtime:

Sometimes you've got to play, "Why the *#$%@& not?" hockey, and that's what the Wings did.

The Red Wings came out relatively strongly, and Daniel Alfredsson scored a top-shelf marker via Johan Franzen and Danny DeKeyser at 7:21 of the 1st...

Gustav Nyquist scored his 20th goal at 4:35 of the 2nd, on the power play...

But a spate of 4-on-4-turned-power play PP's screwed the Wings up, and Stempniak...

And Malkin--twice--on goals that Jimmy Howard, who was stellar, had little to no chance of stopping...

Gave the Penguins the lead within 2 minutes.

In the third period, Tomas Tatar helped the Wings rally in starting and ending this play with Riley Sheahan and Danny DeKeyser at 9:59...

And Todd Bertuzzi chipped the puck off of Olli Maata, whose trip yielded a Bertuzzi penalty in the 2nd, to giv the Wings the lead with 7:42 left...

But Craig Adams tied it up thanks to awful awful awful awful defense from Kindl and Lashoff, who were terrible, and with 5:42 left, it was tied...

Legwand was penalized with 3:46 left in regulation, and the Wings and Howard KILLED THE 5-MINUTE PENALTY, and with 4 tenths of a second left, Daniel Alfredsson scored the gamer;

On Twitter:

Honestly, since Sergei Fedorov scored 5 goals against Washington, I've never seen anything like this.

Cory Emmerton, Landon Ferraro, Kyle Quincey, they were all fantastic on the PK, Howard was in fact superb, Luke Glendening deserves a goal in here somewhere, Miller and Glendening have fine chemistry, and so does Alfredsson with Franzen and whoever the hell he'll play with on Saturday. Let's hope that Legwand's 5-minute major and a fine is what he gets, but he really deserves more.

Now the Wings need to win 8 out of 14.

That is their Stanley Cup right now. 8 out of 14. Make the playoffs. That's all they--and we--should be worrying about right now.

Six minutes of Tomas Tatar via Fox Sports Detroit and RedWingsFeed? Sure.

Didnt see the game, but that butt end to the nutsac of malkin is partial repayment for him not getting suspended a game in the 09 finals with his cheap shot after the horn in game ...5,6..?

Legwand you are my new favorite wing.  smile

Oh, and Legwand butt-ending Malkin? After the shit he’s pulled over his career?

It was a pretense of beauty. A slight motion as if to try to get the stick and making it look real good. That was a superb deke on the zebra.

The butt-end couldn’t have happened to a more deserving jerk, but Legwand totally should be suspended. That sort of play is uncalled for. Sharp’s spear of Lidstrom’s nut cost the wings the cup a few years ago.

I’m pretty convinced this is some weird torture.  The Wings, every… single… game… manage to amazingly blow leads.  One goal, two goals, it doesn’t seem to matter.  Then they take the lead again.  But, by golly, they manage to blow that second lead.  Then, there’s a penalty with X minutes left putting the Wings on the penalty kill hoping to survive to OT.

Sound familiar?

This is the kind of hockey that forces you to keep watching.

Between Legwand butt-ending Malkin and Neal cross-checking Glendening’s face (he shut down Crosby for the most part, go fig)...It was not a pretty game. Since the Olympic break, officiating has been something of a farce.

I was at the game and it was one of the better ones I have attended in awhile. I dislike Malkin and Cindy, but Legwand does deserve a suspension. Although Legwand is now one of my favorite Red Wings.

The Legwand penalty was a minor penalty, take your panties from around your neck Pitt fans (and Malik?) If you think thats horrible you haven’t been paying any attention to the NHL for the past 5-10 years. Jenny was so hurt he immediately returned to the game and continued scoring-wow kind of like the Phanuef horrible injury two nights ago-bullshit

Just finished the game (DVRed due to rehearsal).  After we killed that 5 minute major, I stood up from my couch and applauded.  Didn’t sit back down until now.  I scared my cat with all my jumping and fist pumping after replays showed .4 left.  Unfortunately, it’s 12:20am and I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep for a while…

It’s kinda what we all know; the concussion-protocol the Wings follow requires 7-symptom-free days before you can play So baring any symptoms showing up Helm can play against the Wild on Sunday.

If symptoms do reoccur, that 7-day-clock starts over again.

As for the win, amazing game by the kids, and great to see Fredo getting time where he belongs.  With CBJ winning too, this makes the next game against them HUGE.  Hopefully they can carry some of the high from this game into the weekend.

Oh, and thanks goes to Legwand for almost shooting his new team in the foot when they needed him the most. Ass.

To me this was the most exciting win of the year, talk about roller coaster of emotions. Almost perfect first 35 minutes, than total panic in the next five. And crazy third period and OT. Great job on a 5 minute PK and great job on getting crucial 2 points.
Tatar became a turnover machine latety, need to clean that up.
And what a difference it makes when Alfy plays with players with skill (I would like to hear from those forumists who were on Alfy’s case for not producing enough playing with Glen and Abby nd on my case for even suggesting that Alfy should be playing with skilled partners who can shoot and pass).
