Datsyuk Thought He Would Miss One Game

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Whatever lower-body issue is troubling Datsyuk – it was supposed to be a “day-to-day” injury -- will now have caused him to miss five consecutive games.

“(I wasn’t) expecting this way,” said Datsyuk after Wednesday’s practice, of which he was not a participant. “I thought I’d miss one game and come back. But it’s not feeling great. I just have to fight through.”

Datsyuk isn’t likely to even make the trip to New York to play the Rangers. He wasn’t sure about his availability for Saturday’s home game against the Kings.

“(Take a) couple of days (off) and we’ll see when the team comes back,” Datsyuk said.

Datsyuk is 35 and he’s a) more more injury prone and b) loosing some of his underrated quickness.
Let’s hope the cap REALLY goes up, because by year 2 of his contract, fans are going to pissed about his cap hit.

cap hit, schmap hit.

He’s considered one of the best players in the world; I’ll take him on our roster any way we can get him.

Personally, I agree, Babymachine. But I think we’re witnessing the decline of a Red Wings superstar. And if Holland doesn’t start spending his cap money wisely (stop wasting money on bums like Sammy, Bertuzzi and Cleary and spend that cap on an elite talent, and then use cheap kids to fill the roster), then our roster is going to be in a world of hurt, and that Datsyuk contract will look ugly.
