How about Babcock does something about D? I don’t know, sit Smith and bring up someone, anyone from Grifs.

I TOTALLY agree with you George. Datsyuk is not going to fix our team. Our D in front of howard aiding and abetting 4 goals a night…. That shit has got to stop. Howard can play well all he wants, but I guarantee you, you put ryan miller or tuka rask or lundquist or johnathon quick behind our D, and a team will score goals on them. We have got to have one of the worst D in the league. All I want from this offseason is to trade Q, Smith and get a scoring forward. And to spend 8mil a year on a #1 d man.

Reports are Weiss has skated a couple of times this week and will do so tomorrow too.

Feeling better, but no time given for a return.

Quincey’s a free agent, he gone, Smith would have to be packaged with other pieces to get a return, much in favor of that, and here’s your free agents, not a $8mil or close dman on that list. Kinda sad when you look at it.

You eliminated two defensemen and only added a unicorn.

Smith has been pretty dynamic over the last several games. In fact, was it not Kronwall who was -3 last night? Do you guys think we should also sit Kronwall for anyone on the Griffs?

Smith and Quincey both make their mistakes, but to think we have anyone who’d be an instant upgrade (other than Ericsson of course) is absurd. They would obviously be in right now if that were the case.

Not to lay this on Howards shoulders, but why is Gustavsson not getting any chances. Pretty much all the dude has done this year is win. Jimmy’s made some spectacular saves of late but for whatever reason, he doesn’t seem to be stopping one more than the other guy. You can blame it on the coach, or the D, or whatever, but ALL that matters now is WINS. They can come 1-0 or 9-8. The Monster has been winning this year - when he’s healthy. I know he’s been out awhile which makes it more risky, but Jimmy’s letting in 3-5 goals a night and has lost three in a row. Seems like it’s worth a try at some point (that point should have been the second game of the back to back in my opinion, but I’m not the coach… and we don’t know how healthy Monster really is either)

i gotta say the only thing that i saw on that list was Meszaros. That crop is like adding Cleary and Sammy again. No thanks. Trades and packages at the draft are whats needed to get things going.

Which is why Holland trading away a pick and a prospect chip that he could’ve added to a real package down the road was stupid, especially for a position that has no offseason need

The thickheadedness of people who actively refuse understand that sometimes you have to address the desperate needs of the right now will never cease to amaze me.

Any GM who throws in the towel and gives up on the season when his team is tied for the final playoff spot, as the Wings were on deadline day is just begging to be fired.

This isn’t a garbage team like Buffalo or Edmonton who have sucked all year and had almost no chance of making the playoffs, this is a team that is riddled with injured players who will eventually return to the lineup.  If the Wings get to the playoffs and get their big pieces back, they have a real chance to do some damage.

How is it that people have already forgot about last year?  This is almost the exact same situation: decimated by injuries, clawing to get into the playoffs, then end up being thisclose to making the conference finals.  Why is that so far out of the realm of possibility for people now that Detroit is in a weaker conference?

You can rag on Quincy, but he has played well this season along with playing in every game to date. With a thin UFA market this year for defense men this summer, don’t be surprised if the Red Wings attempt to resign Quincy. Datsyuk may not return in time this season to help the team down the stretch.

* We can’t trade Q, his contract is up, he’s a UFA.
* Why would we trade a D for a forward? We have forwards, we need more D.
* $8m D? Umm… no thanks… I don’t want Brian Campbell.

Q has been much better this year.  Especially after he and Smith were split.  I’d be ok if they resign him.  I don’t think our D is terrible.  I just think the players are all slotted too high.  If we could somehow get a #1 or strong #2 I think our D would be good, but keep Q and Smith apart.
