Datsyuk and Zetterberg combine for another highlight-reel goal

Ken Daniels described Pavel Datsyuk's double-takeaway and deke through Zdeno "Not Often Referred to As a Pylon" Chara, plus his seeing-eye pass to Henrik Zetterberg, as proving that Datsyuk can "thread a needle in the dark"...

And if you dig .gifs...

Pasha never ceases to amaze me. The best hands I’ve ever seen, and one of the smartest players, as well. Only question that will ever remain with him: Will #13 go to the rafters one day?

Chara is no longer an elite defense man.  He had a hideous playoff run last year and he looks slower and less mobile this year.  He is most assuredly on the downslide.  Hell, if he was made to play with a stick that is legal for anyone else, he would probably not even be mentioned as among the better blueliners.

Pavel has already done enough to be in the rafters.

Not to take anything away from Datsyuk, but I’m with DocF in having no idea what Chara’s doing here.

He’s got decent stick position and gap here, then he abandons both to attempt a body check (or a hold? No Earthly idea why he changes directions and puts his hands up) after PD’s moving away faster than Chara’s closing ground. All he has to do is stay between Datsyuk and the net while keeping his stick near-ish to the puck and Datsyuk doesn’t have much to work with.

This is the type of poor decision you tend to see from someone like Matt Carkner, not from a Norris winner.

So yeah, good deke, good pass, but I’m flummoxed as to why Chara played this the way he did.
