Daniel Alfredsson loses teeth during Red Wings’ loss to Devils

For whatever reason, NHL.com chose to spotlight this part of the Red Wings' 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on video. Daniel Alfredsson lost at least a pair of teeth due to an uncalled high stick from Andrei Loktionov, and he attempted to retrieve his chiclets...

Alfredsson finished with 3 shots, 5 total attempts, 2 hits and he played 17:30 on 24 shifts.

Update: MLive's Ansar Khan reports that Alfredsson won't find his teeth back in his mouth:

That is not the only infraction the refs missed.  They called a penalty on Lashoff after the Devils player grabbed and would not let go of Lashoff’s stick.

Funny how a game can shift in just a couple of minutes.

In the space of about four minutes last night

1)  Refs missed the high-stick on Alfie that should’ve put Detroit on a powerplay;
2) Ticky-tack call on Quincey gives the Devils a power play, with Detroit sans a penalty killer;
3) Instead of offsetting calls for the Lashoff tussle, only Detroit is penalized (another PKer out)
4) Glendening gets an offsetting penalty (another PKer out)
5) Helm suffers a mysterious injury and is lost for the game (another PKer out);
6) Ericsson nudges a puck out of Howard’s glove and into the net—good goal, but flukey and in the course of a long power play against a shorthanded squad that should’ve have started in the first place.

At that point you could sense the total collapse, and it happened.  This isn’t about officiating—bad breaks are part of hockey—but without Zetterberg and Datsyuk this team is prone to this sort of letdown.
