Canadian Press: Moore-Bertuzzi lawsuit settlement reached (officially), will remain confidential

Well I guess that's that, per the Canadian Press (and it's good news regarding this afternoon's "Hold Your Horses" news):

A settlement has been reached in Steve Moore’s lawsuit against NHL forward Todd Bertuzzi, more than 10 years after the infamous on-ice attack ended Moore’s career.

Geoff Adair, a lawyer for Bertuzzi, confirmed the case has been "settled in its totality" but said the terms are confidential.

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit had been scheduled to go to trial Sept. 8.

"We are pleased that the resolution of this matter allows the parties to turn the page and look to the future," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in an email.

Messages seeking comment from Moore’s lawyer, Bertuzzi’s agent and the Canucks were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Continued, and here's hoping that both Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi will be able to move on and move forward with their lives. Moore's lived his life in suspended animation for the past ten years, and Bertuzzi spent that time growing into a kind, decent, genuine human being.

Bertuzzi deserves to pay for his horrific and unconscionable act, but he is a human being, not a monster, and he's a good person who did a very bad thing; Moore fully deserves to spend his settlement reestablishing a sense of normalcy in his life and finding personal and professional fulfillment which are long, long overdue.

As for the whole "confidential" spiel, expect details to leak out over the next week or so in the Toronto newspapers. I'd imagine that the NHL and the Canucks probably paid into the settlement.

Was at the Nuck game when this mess happened.  I hope Crawford has to pay as well. Despise that clown and many other things him and his son have done, Dallas, etc.  Many guilty parties aside from Bert. Glad it is done!!!

Well the Canucks were defendants so I would certainly assume that their insurance carrier was a pivotal actor in any settlement that was reached. I wasn’t aware of any direct NHL link (other than there holding back benefits from Moore until the suit was dropped…something for which they deserve to be slapped around even if it was “policy”).

Really doubt that all that much comes out of Bertuzzi and Crawford’s pockets, but it might be a workable annuity of some sort.

I’m sure Bert is happy it’s over.

I’m sure Steve is happy it’s over, too. They both deserve peace and they both deserve to be able to go on with their lives.
