Boudreau Taking The Lou Holtz Approach

from Lisa Dillman of the LA Times,

"Bruce is probably the only guy who thinks he knows how it's going to go," Souray said. "He told us two weeks ago we were probably going to play Detroit, by his calculations.

"We've got a Nostradamus on our hands. That's the beauty of the playoffs. Anything can happen."

Try telling that to those in the prediction business.

"Have you listened to the media the last couple of days?" asked Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf. "We are not the favorite, trust me. It's the same story as the whole season. We're prepared for that."

Said Boudreau: "They're the hottest team coming in. It's very similar to what L.A. was doing last year. They're the guys with the experience that have been there before. Of course, people are going to think [the Red Wings] are going to win."

Where is this Red Wings are this year’s LA Kings? They were 7-6 in April. Yeah they won their last 4 games but gimme a break. Thankfully, they are playing better hockey than they did most of the season, but that ain’t saying much….

Because everyone I’ve read is falling all over themselves proclaiming that this year’s Kings are last year’s Kings.  Which is quite dumb if any thought is put into it at all…

The Wings haven’t really been that hot. They had a mediocre month, at best. They were fortunate to play a couple crummy teams down the stretch, and to their credit, their best players did step up when there literally wasn’t any room for error left. But they are not the “hot” team like the Kings were last season.

That said, I don’t think the fact that roughly half of the pundits are picking the Wings is without merit. They match up really good with the Ducks, as evidenced by the results in the season series. They have the defensive forwards to go head-to-head with the Ducks top six forwards, I think that’s the big thing.

It’s luck (or unluck, if you’re a Ducks fan) of the draw. The Wings frankly don’t match up very well with any other team in the West that made the post-season.

Even so, the Ducks did have a great regular season. They are healthier. There’s every reason to expect the Ducks will (and should) win the series.

I dunno, we sure seemed to play Vancouver pretty well this year.
