Blogger week-to-week with upper-body boogers

Hello and sorry for not posting this sooner: Paul's going to be handling the Wings news for a bit as I've been absent thanks to the Virus of Doom. I've been ill for two weeks now and am still in quite a bit of pain as the super-bug takes its second tour of ye olde body. There's not much I can do other than rest--and the same is true for the mom and aunt, who also got the bug twice--until I can sit up and type. I miss doing my job and I miss talking with all of you, as grim as things seem...

And yes, given that Henrik Zetterberg is on the NHLPA's negotiating committee, given that he had promised to be one of the last players to head to Europe, and given that he's been advised to find employment with EV Zug, things look particularly grim.

Even optimistically speaking, I believe that Bettman and the Board of Governors plan on a half-season lockout as a matter-of-course, and may want to cancel the season in short order to negate any leverage the PA may have. It's ludicrous and I don't think the owners have any clue how much permanent damage they're doing to their sports league by choosing the nuclear option as the only negotiating option, but I guess that when Chairman Mao's got a room full of hard-liners who believe that labor can be broken, 0% of $3.3 billion instead of 43% of $3.3 billion sounds like a completely reasonable sacrifice to make.

So I'll be back to talk about the Red Wings' most dynamic offensive players dazzling in Europe and the Wings' top prospects doing their thing soon, but I can't promise to offer any high expectations to be doing anything but talking about fan protests at the Joe (for the sake of the game-night employees--hell, as much of a PA supporter as I am, I can't help but commend the Wings for retaining their employees and trying to reach out to fans via assemblies, open skates, etc. so as to not completely alienate the fan base; all of that is incredibly progressive given the situation) or gatherings at Griffins games as we slough through a long war together.

In the interim, I'm week-to-week and in more discomfort being too ill to cover the lockout than I would be covering it, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Shit happens in the fall, it seems, and in a way I'm grateful that I'm missing October time due to a physical illness for a change...Lockout gloominess excluded, it's boogers as opposed to depression, and one takes what one can get.

Get some rest, George. Gods know you need it.

George, get well, and don’t worry about things until the NHL players play again. When you’re well, follow some games in Grand Rapids and Toledo. You have enough fans in both, if not just knowing the players/coaches.

So glad to see this post, as I’ve been worried about you.  I even e-mailed Paul to ask about you.  He said you’d been on Twitter some, but I’ve been avoiding Twitter because all the Red Wings tweets just depress me.

Methinks your body wants, and needs, some serious rest.  And I’m glad you’re getting it.  Just sorry it was an illness that prompted it.  Take good care of yourself.

Ditto on what MsRedWinger said-except I had not emailed Paul yet, but was certainly thinking about it!

Glad to hear something from you George. Now you just concentrate on getting better. We are not going anywhere and will enjoy any coverage you will provide when you get over this bug.
