The Malik Report

I witnessed Ken Holland, Ryan Martin and Jiri Fischer have "a talk" with camp try-out Barclay Goodrow on Monday, and 100% of the time, that's a "fish or cut bait" sign, but I chose not to ask them about their discussion as I'm still a little overly polite. Yahoo Sports' Neate Sager found out what happened via the North Bay-Nippising News...
Captain Barclay Goodrow is to join the team Thursday, the eve of the Battalion’s Ontario Hockey League regular-season opener on the road against the Kingston Frontenacs.
Right winger Goodrow, who has been in camp with the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings, informed Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach, via telephone of the impending return.
“He was offered an American Hockey League contract but decided to play an overage year in North Bay instead,” said Butler.
And Goodrow confirmed that he's heading back to the OHL for one more season on Twitter:
Regrettably, the Wings have 50 men on their 50-man roster at present, so they can't make an offer to anyone that doesn't involve spending time at the AHL or ECHL level. Goodrow was a fine "power center," but the Wings are pretty stocked up front as well as on defense, and I hope Barclay made the best decision for him--and that I see him at next year's summer development camp.

About The Malik Report
The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
