I like Holland. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him once and he was nothing but cordial, friendly and very approachable. He came across as a really nice, genuine person.

Saying that, I think we may have to upgrade our GM position.
It seems that every September, he writes down one thing on his ‘to-do’ list; “Keep playoff streak alive”.

He kind of reminds me of the Planet Neutral from Futurama (anything to get a Futurama reference in!).
The Wings should change their team colours to beige and gray.
It’s nothing but status quo.

I actually believe we have a shot of upsetting a very depleted Tampa Bay roster.
But outside of that, I don’t give Detroit much chance of doing anything this Spring.
I hope Kenny makes a huge splash in the off-season by aggressively pursuing Stamkos and PK Subban.

I don’t expect that to happen. I’m sure he’ll sign Richards 2.0, or another dman way on the backend of their career.
You know, just enough to sneak into the playoffs so we can say “26 Years in a row!”.

At some point, you have to crap or get off the pot.
Some fans might disagree, but I’d rather miss the playoffs a few years in a row if it means putting the team into the best position possible to win a Cup.
We need a true #1 goalie and dman. If that means dealing a Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha or Kronwall, then friggin do it.
I imagine some teams would pay a high price to rent Zetterberg and Kronwall for a playoff run.

You don’t think he’ll embrace the youth movement?

I’m hoping so Garth.
If Dats leaves, I think the Wings would be foolish not to insert Larkin as their #1 centerman.
I’m also wondering if Double-A shouldn’t be our #2. Jury’s still out on that.
With Zetterberg back next season, he’ll take that role, but I’m optimistic that Athanasiou has that kind of upside.

I guess I’ve grown tired of seeing Kenny constantly bringing in these old, tired vets instead of just living with mistakes that young players will make.

But, Hank, that’s why they over-ripen their prospects in GR – so they won’t make any mistakes when they get to Detroit.  grin

Apparently AA made one too many mistakes for Blashill’s liking. And so his true talent (as a breakout and breakaway offensive player) is being buried on the 4th line where he’s serving his penance for failing to arrive in the Detroit as a mistake-free NHLer. It looks like the same thing happened with Mantha.

Yes, I know that’s an overstatement of the situation – but it sure as heck feels like that. It seems like Blashill has even less tolerance for young-guy mistakes than Babcock did. And that’s been the real surprise to me.

It really would be nice to just let the kids show what they’ve got instead of relying on older, tired vets.

So you think Stamkos will be the third line centre?  wink

Hey, it’s pretty simple.  He wasn’t good enough defensively when they were down by one or tied or up by one, so he was saved for the easier situations.

Like the penalty kill.

I can definitely see it

There is not guarantee. For every Chicago there is Edmonton example.

I imagine some teams would pay a high price to rent Zetterberg and Kronwall for a playoff run.

They will not be traded, but even if they are dealt at the next year’s deadline, I do not see more than a second rounder plus maybe a mid prospect coming back.

What KH is thinking and what he is saying are 2 different things.  Most, but not all, have to tow the company line.  Unless your Torts or Cameron and looking for a job every couple of years.

Judge him by the product and success on the ice.

Honestly I wish Blash and KH would stop giving interviews.  Lots of Candy coating, BS and hopefully they don’t really believe what they are saying.  If so changes are needed.
