The Malik Report

Audio from the second day of the Red Wings’ summer development camp ‘17

The Red Wings' summer development campers engaged in a wide variety of drills on Saturday, focusing on pace of play, execution and skill development as they worked with Power Edge Pro instructors to deke and dangle their way to better stickhandling.

After the drills, which were extended in nature because Cole Fraser broke a pane of glass in the West Rink, Red Wings director of player development Shawn Horcoff spoke with the media about Vili Saarijarvi, Dennis Cholowski, the Wings' emphases in terms of skil development and his early impressions as the scrimmage looms tomorrow (warm-up at 10:30 AM, game from 11-12:45):

Matej Machovsky was about to go back on the ice for another 50 minutes, and I didn't know that, so he was almost a little annoyed while he spoke with me about coming to North America for the second time to try and make the NHL:

Filip Larsson is heading to North America to play in the USHL and possibly go to college, and Larsson was more forthcoming as he waited for his long day's worth of goaltending:

Lane Zablocki didn't skate today, but he spoke with me at length about his game and his desire to earn an NHL job through hard work--and yes, he knows that he's the "Mike Babcock pick":

Jack Adams spoke with myself and Hooked on Hockey Magazine's Kevin Sporka for over six minutes, discussing the his attempts to grow into his body and work toward a pro contract as he heads off to Union College:

Sarnia Sting goaltender Kaden Fulcher spoke with me about his attempts to learn as much as he can as a free agent invite who's coming back to tend the net during the fall prospect tournament...

Malte Setkov is very brief and businesslike, but he did a pretty solid job of speaking with myself and Sporka for five minutes in English instead of Danish or Swedish...

And Michael Rasmussen was "all business" as he spoke with myself and DetroitRedWings.com's Art Regner about the camp, what he's learning on and off the ice, and what it means to be a 9th overall draft pick by the Wings:

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
