28 minutes’ worth of Ken Holland speaking to the media

It turns out that the last blog entry and/or video summary doesn't include everything regarding the Red Wings' trade deadline machinations...

Because, should you wish to do so, the Red Wings posted 28 minutes' worth of GM Ken Holland speaking with the media regarding the acquisition of David Legwand, the team's decision to "shut down" Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss and Darren Helm's statuses, etc. etc.

Speaking of shutting down, the Illitch family need to shut down the Ken Holland era, it is over, he’s lost me.  He was once pretty good at this job, but so was Dan Cleary, this is “knee” jerk reaction.  Pavel is a $7mln a year athlete, to make the decision to shut him down a ½ hour before the deadline, and force an overreaction with this move is amateur hour at best, he way overpaid, and it is time to move on from this guy running our ship.

He got absolutely fleeced on this deal, especially considering what other GMs were able to trade for, and how pedestrian this team is, its not even a contender, and that’s if Hank and Pav can return after sitting out 2-3 months.  Here’s a question, let’s assume both return,  and so do Helm and his prized offseason acquisition Weiss, where does Legwand even play? I bet he does over Sheehan, great the exact opposite of what we should do.

I wouldn’t even be so upset if this was a rental that we would consider keeping after the year i.e. giving us the exclusive negotiated period,  considering what the UFS market has been or will be, but another aging center? A Michigan retread?  He doesn’t fit in our long term plans unless they intend to ship Weiss off.

I’m glad Holland won some cups, thanks for the memories, but he’s done a piss poor job over the last 4-5 years. The only credit you can give him recently is that all his mistakes run off the books this summer, the year the cap goes up, but on the other hand all these moves, signings, and lopside trades, none of which have worked out, and you have to start questioning his worth as a GM. Time to go Kenny Boy, time to go.
