Pens’ sleeping giant should concern Oilers

From CBC Sports’ Chris Iorfida:
Captain Sidney Crosby is red hot for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Edmonton Oilers will also have to worry about Evgeni Malkin when the clubs meet Thursday at Rexall Place.
Crosby has scored six goals in his last four games after potting one in Pittsburgh’s 3-1 victory in Calgary on Wednesday. Malkin, meanwhile, went without a goal for a 10th straight game and has just 13 in 41 games this season after notching 47 and 35 in the last two seasons, respectively.
The Russian has also not scored in two career games against Edmonton, although he’s been a force with five assists. But given his talent level, he’s bound to hit the back of the net sometime soon, and without offending Oilers fans, his goal output this season is fairly neatly correlated to the opposition’s place in the NHL standings.

Penguins’ trade for Garon is a head-scratcher, at first glance

As Paul just wrote, the Oilers and Penguins swung a trade today, with the Oilers sending Mathieu Garon to the Penguins for Dany Sabourin, Ryan Stone and a 4th round draft pick in 2011.
Maybe some more wheeling and dealing is in the works by Pens’ GM Ray Shero, because they’re got to be VERY tight against the salary cap if not over right now, but as of right now I don’t see the methods of his madness on this one.

Well, um, they won.
That’s the important thing, isn’t it ??
To borrow a phrase from the late great Pirates’ announcer Bob Prince, the Penguins came within a knat’s eyelash of blowing a 5-goal lead within the last 21 minutes of the game but hung on for dear life to barely defeat the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 at the Igloo.
