For all of the vitriol spewed about the goaltending, the defense, the lack of offense, the coaching, the ice surface and a number of other complaints, your Pittsburgh Penguins are a mere two points behind the Flyers for the Atlantic Division lead.
Last night’s 5-4 shootout win over Carolina gave the Penguins points in five straight games with a 4-0-1 record.
What do ya know, the season may not be over after all.
Some other observations:
- Very candid and interesting comments about Evgeni Malkin that Penguins’ color commentator Bob Errey recently said on The NHL Network’s NHL Live, as transcribed by David Todd’s “The Hammer Speaks” blog. I focused specifically on Errey’s comments concerning’s Malkin’s poor showing on faceoffs (currently winning at a 32.9% clip). Errey said, “You’re talking about a centerman, he’s a guy that can’t win draws worth a lick. I mean, he just puts his stick in there and it’s going the other way.” No doubt that’s a jab at Malkin’s lack of commitment toward any improvement in the faceoff circle, and it’s not a coincidence that he mentioned that after watching Sidney Crosby grow from being mediocre in the faceoff circle to now being one of the best in the league.
- I hesitate to even give this dumbass the extra hits by linking to his “article”, but I never understand the gross immaturity such as the “author” of this whinefest about Crosby. It’s three pages of crap drafted by someone who sounds like he typed it while stomping his feet. Three pages of references to “Cindy Crysby” and, for good measure, he refers to Mario Lemieux as “Lepew”. How old is he, nine? Is this what what blogging has come to nowadays? Having to resort to juvenile jokes to hopefully make you seem funnier? Or that you’re gonna get more hits out of it?
Look, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I have no problem at all with criticism towards my team or any of the players on my team, and that includes Crosby. Crosby is not without his faults, I’ll be the first one to concur with that. But when you criticize, act like an adult when you do it. Writing “Cindy Crysby” only makes you sound like a 13-year old girl, and frankly, eliminates any sort of validity that you’re criticism may otherwise contain.
And allow me one footnote: I have one rule regarding comments on my blog -
You put those names in your comments and I will delete the comment
. Don’t waste your time complaining to Paul, he supports that 100%.
The Pens are back in action Monday night in Florida.
