Not sure I understand the “oof.” Unless you think his play is going to fall off a cliff in the near future.

With the new CBA, the AAV on players’ contracts are going to rise substantially. This is just the start. You can’t cheat the system anymore.

Malkin’s new deal kicks in for the 2014-15 season, when the Cap will (probably) be back to at least where it is now. Probably even higher.

So the cap will go up throughout Malkin’s deal, and he will be making $800k more per year in AAV? Sounds like a good deal for both parties.

Considering there was talk of north of 10, I am fine with the deal. I imagine Shero moves to Letang, gives him best offer he can, and then trade him if he doesn’t take it.
