Penguins recall Pesonen to replace Talbot

Finnish forward Janne Pesonen was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to replace the injured Max Talbot, who took a shot off the left foot during the Pens’ 5-3 win over the islanders on Wednesday night.
There’s been no indication how severe Talbot’s injury is, nor is there been any estimate of his return.
Pesonen has 5 goals and 16 assists in 19 games for the Baby Penguins this season. He was recalled for one game to Pittsburgh earlier this season.

Malkin’s hat trick propels Penguins over Isles, 5-3

Scary. Sick. Possessed.
You name the adjective, but it certainly is a sight to see when Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby collectively turn it up a notch.
And that they did, overcoming a 3-1 third period deficit with four goals, including Malkin’s natural hat trick, to defeat the Islanders 5-3 at Nassau Coliseum.

If you’re a regular reader of this incredibly amateur-ish column, first of all thanks, but you also know my numero uno Pet Peeve when it comes to your Pittsburgh Penguins, and that’s their powerplay.
And so it’s in that regard that I was pleasantly surprised to read HCMT’s scathing comments towards the Pens’ powerplay units following yet another PP gooseegg after their 3-1 loss to the Canucks at the Igloo on Saturday afternoon.

Luongo injures groin, Canucks down Penguins anyway, 3-1

Turns out that a potentially serious groin injury to Roberto Luongo didn’t make much difference to the Canucks.
Turns out that playing their third game in about seventy-two hours didn’t make much difference to the Canucks.
Helped out by a pretty putrid effort by the Penguins for the majority of the game, the Canucks got a couple of scrappy goals and some good relief goaltending by Curtis Sanford to hang on and defeat the Penguins at the Igloo, 3-1.

Despite injuries, Penguins flying high in the East

From The Sporting News’ Craig Custance,
There’s some bad news for anybody, at least in the media, who wants to chat with Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin on the morning of a game. He now considers it bad luck to talk following the morning skate.
“Please, after game”, he pleaded when asked to chat Thursday morning, “Bad luck”.

Penguins nip Thrashers; Whitney returns to practice

Sorry for the tardiness in gettng this out. It happens.
The Penguins just kept on truckin’ on Thursday night at a sparse Philips Arena, getting a late third period powerplay goal from Petr Sykora, extending the Pens’ point streak to eight games with a 3-2 win.
Gotta give the Thrashers props right off the bat, they played quite the inspired game and frankly had numerous great scoring opportunities to steal one from the Penguins, but Dany Sabourin once again was outstanding.
