Hawks Beat Blue Jackets

6 Blackhawks were put on the NHL All Star ballot. No real surprises here in the list that included Keith and Seabrook on defense, as well as Kane, Toews, Sharp and Hossa as forwards. The one omissions was Corey Crawford not being listed as one of the 18 goalies.

Crawford (6-4-2,  2.6 GAA) started in net on Thursday against what was once, the reliable, Steve Mason (2-10 3.7 GAA). The Hawks skated in Columbus against the 2-11-1 Blue Jackets.

The lines were shaken up again with the following;

!st line: Stalberg, Toews, Hossa
2nd line: Carcillo, Kane, Sharp
3rd line: Bickell. Kruger, Frolik
4th line: Brunette, Mayers, Olesz

Bolland was out with a lower body injury from the last game. The Defense match ups remained the same.

In the first period, the Hawks looked like they were on the Power Play for most of the time, out shooting Columbus 16-5. The Hawks scored first with Toews putting in a rebound. Montador dropped the gloves (more on this later) to get a 5 minute fighting penalty.The Jackets later tied the game 1-1 on a goal by Clitsome (insert your own joke here) Carcillo took a puck in the mouth later on in the period. He would return, several stitches on both lips, later. Toews scored his second goal on a really tough angle shot to beat Mason with around 3 minutes left. The Hawks ended the period with a Power Play that started with 16 seconds left. The period ended 2-1 Hawks.

The second period opened up with the Hawks continuing on the Power Play. In the final seconds of it Brunette poked in a rebound, 3-1. Almost halfway into the period, another Power Play led to a goal. This time it was Keith to Montador in front of the net. The Hawks were using 3 defense men on that shift. 4-1 Hawks. Corey Crawford came up big on the next two Penalty Kills to keep the score the same. With about a minute left, Kane went fore hand, back hand on a breakaway to end the period 5-1.

In the third. Hossa scored 32 seconds in to continue the pounding. Nash got his 500th point of his career on an assist to make it 6-2.  Clitsome again to finish the scoring at 6-3. Montador, finished the game with the old Gordie Howe hat trick - goal, assist, fight.

Calgary back at at the U.C. tomorrow night.
