Talk'n Hawks

A Real Wild One

Game 5 of the “circus trip” was against the Ducks. The Hawks who had lost their previous 3 games, being out scored 15-4, were not looking good, to say the least. Corey Crawford started in net against Jonas Hiller. The Hawks, as you would expect, had their lines shaken up by Coach Q. The 3 B’s skated together, Bickell-Bolland-Brunette, and Sharp, Kane & Frolik formed another line. Seabrook was back in action for the Hawks “D” after his lower body inury.

The 1st period started HORRIBLE with the Ducks scoring twice in the first 3 minutes, All I could think was, “here we go again!”  Then, a Hawks Penalty Kill (Last in the league @73.5%) was successful. Seconds later, Sharp scored on a rebound, 2-1. Things were looking a little better. The Hawks squandered 2 straight Power Plays, and you had the feeling that “missed opportunities” would be the key once again. Selanne made it 3-1, and Bolland answered, 3-2. You felt fortunate to be going into the locker room being down only one goal after one period.

In the second, another empty Hawks Power Play was played out early. When Ryan scored a tap in goal -left ALONE again by the hawks defense- I had a bad feeling about this one. Yet another failed Power Play, and I was thinking that to save ink, I would start writing down MO instead of missed opportunity. The period ended with the Hawks out shooting the Ducks, but trailing 4-2.

In the 3rd period, the fun began! 1:04 in the Toews scored, 4-3 Hawks. Before I could finish writing down my notes, Sharp tied it 4-4. Two quick goals. Then, what I thought was a time out by the Ducks, turned out to be a stoppage in play with Hiller asking that the curtains in the second level be fully closed. Nice ploy Jonas, you got the game slowed down without a time out, as this lasted a full 2 minutes to take care of. It didn;t matter because the hats were flying as Sharp scored his 3rd to make it 5-4. Close the curtains and the books on Hiller, in comes Ellis.  A helmet less Toews scored his 2nd of the evening (a career high 2 goal, 3 assist, 5 point game) to go up 6-4. The Ducks made it interesting by going empty net with 2:09 left. The scored with 7 seconds left, but the boys hung on and got a MUCH needed 2 points.

Short road trip to L.A. tomorrow.

Yeah but they also gave up 5 goals to a team that has averaged 2 a game. This incarnation of the Blackhawks seems to be giving up quite a large amount of goals.

I watched the first, but after that start by the team, I have to admit I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to the 2nd..  Caught the 3rd and it was awesome !
