The Blackhawks will kick off the preseason tonight with a game against the Edmonton Oilers. It will be played is Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at 8:00pm Central. The game will not be televised. Howvever, you can watch it stream live on chicagoblackhawks.com. The game will be called by John Weideman and Troy Murray. Slated to make the trip and play will be, last year’s late call up and playoff stand out, Ben Smith. Kyle Beach, Viktor Stalberg, Marcus Krueger will also be on board. On defense, Leddy, Lepisto, and Montador are scheduled to play. I will be looking forward to the Toews brothers, Jonathon and his younger brother David who the Hawks signed earlier this off season. It would be fun to see both of them appear on the ice together in some fashion.
Noticeably missing from the roster are Hossa, Seabrook, Keith, and Hjalmarsson. The Hawks, like most teams during the preseason, play more starters at home games than road games. The full roster for the game tonight can also be found on the official website, chicagoblackhawks.com.
The Blackhawks have announced an updated pre season radio and television broadcast schedule. They are also going to be streaming one of the games on their official website, chicagoblackhawks.com. First, the internet viewing. The Hawks will be playing the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, September 20, at the Credit Union Center in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at 8:00 pm Central. Presented by AthletiCo Physical Therapy (thanks folks) the entire game can be seen on the a fore mentioned website. The game is also available through the iPhone app (too cool) on the Blackhawks official mobile application. The WGN radio crew of John Wiedeman —hands down the most under appreciated announcer in the history of Chicago sports radio - -and ex Hawk Troy Murray will be the broadcast team. Intermission will have interviews just like a regular season broadcast. This is great news. Originally I thought I was going to have to wait until game 3 to see the boys in action.
Finally. This is it. Training Camp for the Blackhawks will begin tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, at the United Center. Once again, the hawks will open camp in grand tradition with a sold out celebration. (tickets for this event have remained $5 per person for the last 3 years). Outside events have included street hockey, bands, and kids games, a little something for every one. Inside the arena, Coach Q should be “miked up” again as the players go through the usual drills, scrimmages and other warm ups associated with a first time gathering of all.
Now, to get serious. As we know Patrick Sharp is slated to be out at least another 3 weeks sine the emergency surgery on his appendix. Also, as of this writing, Patrick Kane is waiting to get word on when he will be a go, for sure. ( I have not read, or heard anything yet official) Other than a few other bumps & dings—again that are official word—. Every one appears to be ready to go.
