Baby Canes lose, but G Mike Murphy continues to make a name.

On Wednesday, the Hurricanes prospects lost in their final round robin game to the Atlanta Thrashers prospects by the score of 7-3.  The game was virtually meaningless, as Carolina was guaranteed to advance to the championship game no matter what.  On Thursday night, they’ll face the winner of this evening’s game between Minnesota’s and St. Louis’ prospect squads.

Mike Murphy, who was the winner in the first two games, started the game and gave up two goals through two periods.  Alain Valiquette started the third period and had a brutal time, surrendering five goals in the last period.  Earlier today, NHL.com ran a nice article about Murphy

Zach Boychuk and Matt Kennedy each scored for the third time in three games.  Depending on which account is accurate, either Harrison Reed or defenseman Michal Jordan scored the Canes’ other goal.

Baby Canes win again in Traverse City

On Monday, the “Baby Hurricanes” won their second game of the Traverse City prospects tournament by defeating the host Red Wings prospects 5-3.  Carolina is now 2-0 in the East bracket of the tourney and will conclude round robin play on Wednesday against Atlanta’s prospects. 

Mike Murphy was in nets again for the Canes.  While never trailed on Sunday, they were down 2-0 in the second period and entere the third period of game two trailing 3-2.  Harrison Reed, Zach Boychuk and Chris Terry scored the markers in the third.  Matt Pistilli and Matt Kennedy both scored in the second.
