Your 2008-2009 Carolina Hurricanes Injury Hogs

I’ve been running Red and Black Hockey since the lockout, and one of the most well-received things I’ve done has been my annual injury hogs. It’s a little late this season, but they’re here. This is the third year of the hogs, and by far the least extensive. To date, Carolina has lost 200 man-games to injury, compared to over 300 in each of the previous two seasons. 17 different players have missed games due to injury or illness, but only four have missed significant time. With each passing season, the specifics get more and more vague. What used to be a “fracture of the fourth left metatarsal” became “broken foot”, which has become “lower body”. Please note that Jussi Jokinen missed four games due to the death of his father and that the NHL strangely counts those in the “man-games lost to injury”.
We’ll start with Justin “Viva” Williams, who was traded to Los Angeles at the trade deadline, and Scott Walker, who has missed more than half of the season already. Then we’ll work through the lineup alphabetically. These should be self-explanatory.
