The Hurricanes have cryptically announced, through their website, that a “player-signing news conference” will take place at noon on Tuesday. This is a pretty big deal, but the player to be named isn’t much of a secret. Jeff Skinner. He’s wowed the coaches and fans in camp and in the Traverse City tournament and really put himself in a great position. This is a big deal because since Skinner is under the age of 20, if he signs a contract, he only has the one option. The big club. The AHL is not an option for him this season due to his age, but it will still be a two-way standard entry-level contract.
The Canes are also expected to make an announcement sometime this week or next that Tim Gleason and Brandon Sutter will be the new alternate captains. These are both excellent choices, as they both ooze “leadership”.
Later on Tuesday, the Hurricanes will kick off their preseason schedule with a tilt against the Florida Panthers. The lineups have been announced and Skinner will be centering the first line.
