Drayson Bowman at camp, and brother brawls

Drayson Bowman is one of the many young forwards at Hurricanes training camp with a realistic chance of making the big team.  Due to his age (19 yrs) and nationality (American), the options for him are limited.  Either he plays in Raleigh, or most likely, he stays in Spokane with his junior team.

There are two roster positions available.  The fourth line center position has all but been given to rookie Brandon Sutter, so there is one position available for a winger.  Jeff O’Neill’s name has been bandied about for a top nine fill-in, but recently, Bowman has emerged as a candidate for a position.
Last season, Bowman had a very impressive year with the Spokane Chiefs, scoring 82 (42/40) points for the WHL Champs in 66 regular season games.  He also added 20 (11/9) points in 21 playoff games.  Both were team-leading totals.

I haven’t seen him yet, but despite the good reviews, I don’t think Bowman will land in Raleigh just yet.  He’ll be in Spokane again, and he’ll probably make the move to Albany in 2009-10.  Still, he’s one of the team’s top prospects, so his timeline could easily be sped up.

There are loads of Drayson Bowman videos on the YouTubes.  The first goal in the 2008 Memorial Cup Final was a really nifty goal, and some regular season game where he scored three goals and the shootout winner.  Those are both great, but for some reason, my favorite YouTube of Drayson Bowman is this one, of him fighting his brother Collin, who is a defenseman for the Kelowna Rockets.  It’s not much of a fight, but it isn’t often you get to see brothers fight on the ice.

Again, not much of a fight, and no sound on the video, but it’s funny.  Drayson, wearing 27 in white and Collin, wearing 2 in the dark sweater.  I think a couple of the Sutter brothers fought on the ice a couple of times, but my favorite, far and away is when Wayne and Keith Primeau fought each other.  Wayne wearing 76 for the Sabres and Keith wearing 55 for the Whale.  What makes this video even better is that John Forslund makes the call.
