On Monday, the Charlotte Checkers wrapped up a two game set with the Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks) with a blistering 10-3 win. They lost a tough one on Sunday 3-2 against the same team, but the retribution was swift and hard. There were nine different goal scorers and fifteen different players tallied at least one point.
The second period was an absolute explosion, in which the Checkers scored eight goals. In a span of 101 seconds, they scored four.
Crunch starting goaltender Timo Pielmeier was yanked early in the second after he had allowed a total of four goals, including two in 21 seconds. Backup netminder J-P Levasseur was terrible in relief, giving up two goals in his first 1:34. He was chased and Pielmeier was put back in for the rest of the game. He gave up four more to finish with eight goals against.
Newcomer Brett Sutter joined the fun, scoring his first professional goal. Riley Nash was the only player with two goals. The only skaters who did not register a point were Casey Borer, Drayson Bowman and Bryan Rodney.
Mike Murphy went the distance in nets for the Checkers. They’ll be off for the next three days before hosting two games (Friday, Sunday) against the defending Calder Cup champs Hershey Bears.
